I heard a theory that they're all circus-themed! Rowlet sounds like "roulette", and it's like a knife-thrower with its grass quills already. Litten is like the ring of fire/tiger act(sometimes a lion), or a firebreather? Popplio of course is the acrobatic with high-flying acts and dazzling displays.

Gorebyss isn't even a dolphin, it's based off this weird sea creature that jabs its prey and feasts on them that way by draining them out. I think some of the pokedex entries say so as well, and reference that it's a deep sea pokemon while dolphins aren't. :'D
