This is my entry for the Kick Your Own @ss Contest in the traditional Art category.The old version is from 2003 and can be found here: [link]
The new one was submitted today (just in time
) and can be found here: [link] Both were done in pencil by me and that's pretty much where the similarities stop
I didn't spend more than 30 minutes on the old version but was happy with it back then. Apparently I had no knowledge at all about shading, details, proportions and lighting. I've improved on so many levels - which is not hard considering the older image - but I've also tried to put all my new learned skills and knowledge into the new version. Maybe I'll look back at it one day and laugh at what I consider good right now

Hi! It's awesome the progress...I don't have a good hand with portraits but this piece is great, the hair movement, the light and shadow are the key to achieve the expression, the only thing I think you can improve is the detail of her dress you have to much detail in the face and hair that the dress looks unfinished.

There's actually a lot of detail in the dress that you can't see because of the resolution, but I guess I could have done some softer shading on the folds...

thank you! Well, not yet, although I'm currently in an anti-art-phase where I haven't drawn anything decent in months. (and haven't replied to any comments in an equal time phrase, so sorry about that 
Actually, the reference I used for the first drawing was slightly different so that's why there's no hand in it. But I remember always hiding the hands behind peoples backs or under clothing

maybe you just need to paint! everytime i have problems with drawing esp realistic stuff i start to paint for a while. something weired and wild

allerdings. Ich mΓΌsste mich auch mal hinsetzen und mal wirklich lange an einem bild sitzen... leider krieg ich das mit meiner momentanen aufmerksamkeits-spanne nicht hin.

Jo, Farben sind so ne sache. entweder man kann mit ihnen oder nicht.
Ich bin mir allerdings sicher, das du das gut hinkriegst. Am besten mal einfach eins deiner Pencils colorieren - sollte ganz fix gehen, und mit etwas rumspielen, kommst du sicher auch zu nem ΓΌberzeugenden ergebniss

Hello! I saw all the traditionals entries and I really think you have one of the bests! The hair is my fav part, because the movement seems so natural! The lights and shadows are amazing too, amazing piece, haha!
