Description
When Kiara saw her grandmother, she knew she wasn't happy.Kiara lowered his head, hoping Sarabi would understood how ashamed she was, but it didn't work.
"Kiara!" she shouted.
"Grandma, I-"
"Kiara, how could you be so irresponsible?"
"Grandma, I was not! I'm Ok, and..."
"You should't left the Pridelands like that never. You are princess, and Future Queen. You have your home and your family here." Sarabi's glare of displeasure scared her granddaughter.
"I know, grandma, I just wanted to..." Kiara's word could't calm Sarabi.
"To see Kovu? I already know it. I don't mind you seeing him, but I can let you forget your pride."
"I didn't forget the pride!"
"No, no the pride, but your pride. Maybe you don't see it, but the lionesses here are also your family, you have to love them, and take care of them. You are Future Queen, and as a Future Queen, you have to protect yours, you an't put them in danger because of personal questions."
"But I don't put them in any danger! And... I, huh, love them..."
"Listen to me, Kiara" Sarabi's voice was now soft and confident "Scar never loved the pride. He never cared of any of us, he was never our king. Kiara, be King or Queen means far more than just do whatever you want... While Scar was king, I was the leader of the hunting platoon, but all the lionesses treated me as if I was still Queen, because I protected them as the protected me."
"Grandma, I would never left my pride, less hurt them."
"I know dear. You have to understand how important is to a lion to have his/her pride. You can't treat them like if they were inferior, or worse than you, never. As their Queen, you have a commitment with them. All lionesses must be equal to you, and when they see it, they will follow you everywhere"
Kiara listened to her grandma with admiration to her wise words. No doubt she was a beloved Queen even when now it was his son the King. But Kiara has still her own doubts, about all lionesses being equal, there was something wrong, but maybe she and Kovu could fix it...

Sorry for the "fan-fic" style of this comment!
This conversation is supposed to inspire Kiara to say, at the end of the movie, that the outlander and pridelanders lionesses are equal, and only the leader who cares of his followers is a true leader.
Just beacuse I think Sarabi is a Great, GREAT character!

Well, I was never very attached to Kiara as a girl, now I realize that she's not as bratty as most fans think, however, is not one of my favs. While I like her overall design (color schemes are another story xD), I am not sure if I like or dislike her personality. Sometimes she acts just like a crazy teen, always going away from Simba who just want to protect her daughter (damnit, there's literally a bunch of lionesses who would galdly kill Kiara and/or Simba if they could!), on the other hand, sometimes she acts like a responsible future queen (at the end of the movie, for example), so it's hard for me to tell.
I can see why fans dislike and hate her (I used to hate her) but I know she has her reasons, and why other fans defends her.
Sarabi, however, is a very interesting character in my opinion: she's the very definition of "regal", she's a good mother and I like to think she was a good queen. And she was brave enough to contradict Scar, even when, if Scar wanted, the hyenas could have killed her. I only regret the movie didn't focus more on Sarabi's sorrow, a very interesting theme in my opinion, as she lost her husband and son. Yeah, Simba is the main character and all, and he had a horrible childhood thinking he was to blame for his father's death... but... I dunno, I think they wasted Sarabi a bit. If she was just a filled character like Sarafina, with simple design, less dialogue... then I wouldn't care. But I found her pretty awesome.

I completely agree that Kiara is LIGHT YEARS away from being the horrible person that many say she is. I think the reason she seemed more mature at the end was because the film was depicting her growing up in several senses, and by the end, she becomes ready to take on the responsibilities of being queen. It's a really nice character arc for her in my opinion, and I really hate to see the kind of backlash she always gets. Kiara really seems to be a "love her or hate her" kind of character, and you'd better believe I'm on the former side of those two!
As for Sarabi, you took the words right out of my mouth; I LOVE how she managed to keep herself so calm even in the darkest hour(s) of Scar's reign. Out of all of the characters in the whole Lion King franchise, Sarabi is amongst the ones that I have the absolute most respect for. And I also fully agree that the movie itself really should've taken at least a little bit more time to show off what she could do and how she dealt with Mufasa's death. It would've been so heart-wrenching to see, I just know it. It really does make me wonder what Sarabi could've done or said like this in the sequel as well. I have my own ideas of what happened to her, but that's another discussion for another time.

I think the problem is that youngsters wanted to see another Simba, who is loved by most fans as he was equally mischievous and brave, and he was really sad of dissapointing his father, while Kiara acts more like a "I-dont-care-waht-you-say-because-I'm-gonna-do-what-I-want" kid, and that could bother older audiences (and even children!).
Let's be honest, Kiara should show at least some fear for the Outlanders, or at least Zira, since Simba (or Zazu) surely told her what happened with Scar, etc. Simba and Nala where scared to death when the hyenas appeared for the first time. When Kiara meets Zira, she looks more scared of her father's roar than Zira herself xD
I think the writers wanted Kiara to be a "cool action girl", but instead some fans found her more mary sue-ish than cool. It's hard to tell, we could easily talk about this for hours (and I wouldn't mind it!)
Yeah, Sarabi is pretty awesome and cool. Sadly, she gets so little spotlight that there is no character development. In the Musical, there's a song where all the lionesses plus Rafiki cry over Mufasa's corpse. That would have been an excellent chance to give Sarabi more spotlight, but instead, is Rafiki who sings, and Sarabi is just a background character even more than in the film. However, I think that exploring Sarabi's sadness would have made the movie too depressing for children (like if your uncle killing your father and blaming you for it wasn't dark enough for a "kids movie", huh?)

Somewhere I read they didn't include Sarabi because her dub actress died few months after the first film was released, and like a tribute, they didn't put Sarabi in the second one

Yeah I read that up too. So sad! But I still would have to liked to seen her. They gave Zazu a different voice (ugh it was terrible) so why couldn't they find a voice actor that sounded like the original? Le sigh

May her voice (the lovely Madge Sinclair, who died during 1995 from cancer) rest in peace. Both actress and character were an inspiration!!

I actually like the fan-fic part you have written.
Sarabi could have given Kiara wise words, even though she wasn't in the second film which is sad. Sarabi was wise queen and strong lioness, during Scar's reign.

En la versión latina de El Rey León Kiara le dice a su padre: "Un rey me dijo un día que somos uno, hasta entonces no entendía nada de eso... Ahora sí..." . Pero aparte de Simba, tu idea de que Sabby se lo haya dicho a Kiara es una magnífica idea.

Además, Simba llevaba siendo rey relativamente poco y no sé... el hecho de que volviera a Pridelads, venciera a Scar, etc no significa que ya sin más superara el trauma de perder a su padre por culpa de su tío... Quiero decir, en la segunda película, Simba aún debería estar un poco tocado, porque lo que le pasó fue muy grave... Y precisamente por eso yo creo que Sarabi debió de ayudarle mucho a reinar cuando recién ascendió al torno.
