Description
Kai and Rei, from Beyblade. Old pic, so the characters aren't drawn that great, but the colours turned out nice ^^.The background is a photo that I edited and drew back into, then experimented with various filters on it.
Completed 16 Jan '03, All done in Photoshop.

This has to be the most beautiful rei/kai work I've ever seen. I love the background! And I personally really like the style you've drawn them in, it suits the rest of the picture perfectly. Their clothes and hair, too, are textured so well.

i don't know why, but i like kai's hair so very very much. mayhap it's the soft shading on it. i agree too! the colors do turn out well!

I like it, and I agree with Takillis
One gripe - the two characters, although beautifully drawn and proportioned, don't seem to fit the background. I think it may be down to the shadows, or perhaps the difference in hue of the light falling on background and foreground, but they don't seem to fit together.
Other than that, a stunning piece of work. Bravo!

I think I see what you mean – the lighting in particular doesn't match, since the characters have white lighting and the bg light would most likely be yellow from diffusing through the leaves. It's always a bad idea to finish the characters first, and leave the bg to the end.
As for Kai's super happy expression: I was in the land of mindless fluff when I drew it X3. These days, I think I'd aim for a more serious, much less sappy attitude if I was drawing the pairing, although, having seen the recent V-force eps and how much Kai is smiling now, a happy Kai is no longer so unbelievable ^^.
