DESIGN:

The design of this clear skin takes its inspiration from the original translucent iMac - the clear colours are (in order), the original iMac colours, Grape, Lime, Tangerine, Blueberry, Strawberry, and Bondi Blue, followed by my own additions of Banana, Graphite and Diamond.

You can also use the Change Device icon at the top left of the device to select classic Black or White, plus my impression of a U2 style video iPod.

Credit to Juan Hernandez (juanchis) for his iPod Media Player skins. They inspired me to try skinning myself and I needed an excuse to learn a bit of XML and JScript! Thanks Juan

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TOOLS:

I use Xara Xtreme (www.xara.com), to build up the graphics for the skins, which are defined as vector images (apart from the video iPod circuit board in these clear versions), with named colours so that I can create different colourways quickly.

I use TextPad (www.textpad.com) for creating the XML and JScript files.

There are some arrows that will appear to the right of the screen. You can use these to cycle through the different colours/designs.

If you hover the mouse just to the right of the iPod screen, you'll see up and down arrows, you can use these to select different colours within the two sets of skins (solid and transparent), which you have already found out how to switch between by using the little "bars" icon at the top left of the device.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the comment. This was made when screen resolutions were worse. There isn't a way to increase the size of the player without redoing the graphics.

how can u install this skins for wmp?

txs.

Rallyz In reply to yoya4ever [2011-06-08 22:22:53 +0000 UTC]

Click on the "Download file" link at the top right of this page and choose "Open" and it will install it and open WMP with the new skin.

At least it does under Firefox. I notice that Internet Explorer 9 renames the .wmz file with a .zip extension when it saves it, so you may need to change that back to .wmz and then double-click on it.

You can click on the lower right-hand corner (there will be an arrow pointing up-and-left) which will put you back to Full Mode (or you can use the standard key combination Ctrl+1). Then you can change to another skin by selecting Skin Chooser from the View menu.

So I click on the middle of the click wheel and it goes to the information pane, the visualization pane, then all black, then it repeats, and that's it...? It worked once with the other options and now it doesn't...

Also a comment: this is so cool! One thing I would add would be different colors to the solid colored ipod skins instead of just black and white.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Rallyz In reply to Drummerfreak1991 [2009-01-15 00:52:01 +0000 UTC]

That's odd, I see the same running under Vista, but it seems to be only after using some other skins (e.g. Corporate). Change to a different skin, go back to iPod Clear, and it's working fine with the full set of screens described above. Weird. It also seems to go black when the song changes. Must be something slightly different with WMP11 that confuses it. Sorry.

I did have some other solid colours when I was developing it, but I dropped them from the release as the skin file was big enough already!
My other skin, iPod dA, does have a different colour for the dA branded versions of the classic, nano and shuffle skins (there are similar branded versions on winmodify.net and skinz.org - or at least there were, I haven't checked for a while).

Also every time I turn on the player, the last time it was on it had the ipod set. But every new time I turn the player on, it goes back to the generic skin for the player. How do I make it stay on the ipod skin so I don't have to keep redownloading it?

Yea there were others on those sites, but they didn't work in my player.. it said they weren't valid..

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Rallyz In reply to Drummerfreak1991 [2009-01-16 20:27:50 +0000 UTC]

It opens up with the the ipod skin (or whichever skin was previously used) okay here. Which operating system and version of WMP are you using?

The iPod Skinz one is at [link]

The Winmodify one (iPod WM) is at [link] age=2

With both of them you have to download a zip file, and in that is the iPod_Skinz.wmz or iPod_WM.wmz skin file that WMP needs, just doubleclick on it once you've extracted it.

Drummerfreak1991 In reply to Rallyz [2009-01-17 19:33:05 +0000 UTC]

Yea I did all that.. but how do I make the skin my default skin for the skin mode so that everytime I put it on skin mode it goes automatically to that instead of the Windows Media Player usual default?
It said Audio 9.1?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Rallyz In reply to Drummerfreak1991 [2009-01-17 23:15:53 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I think I see what you're doing. If you click on the icon at the extreme lower right corner of Windows Media Player that looks like a arrow pointing down and left towards a small black rectangle (and which has the tooltip "Switch to compact mode"), then it will go to compact mode, which is a small version of the standard media player, but only showing the control buttons. To go to skin mode you have to press Ctrl-2 (or Alt, View, Skin Mode).

There's a Microsoft explanation of all five display modes at [link]

Hope this helps.

i don't care i like em they look cool

but one problem (i sorta fixed it) i cant get my windows media player skin BACK unless i goto restore full or w/e on the ipod but then it goes into this nasty blue media player skin ILL!

only way i can get my normal skin back with transparent top and bottom is when i goto view skin chooser or whatever its called i don't know the exact but its not on the list but after i click skin chooser it goes to normal so i just exit out of skins without choosing something...

please msg back if you understand that i just realized how big it was

You can go back to the normal size Media Player window by clicking on the icon on the lower right corner (arrow pointing up and left).

Hi Jojo2020,

If you click in the centre of the clickwheel, it will toggle the display between the normal view with the title and small cover art, then to the visualistion pane, then to the title and cover art displayed over the visualisation, then a large cover art, then a large cover art over a visualisation ... phew!

Whenever the visualisation is showing, if you click on it then it will go to the next one, or double-click to go back (usually ...).
