i fail at color scheme answers. i say it's 'stuff and figures in front of a black background' - i just browsed old japanese commercial paintings. Check Noriyoshi Ohrai for example.

yup, just like i said (in the picture comment)
first acrylic as base paint (black) and then gouache on top of it.
it sometimes gets some great dry brush texture that has the oldschool feeling, i dig it alot!
