Description Commonwealth of Roygaine during the early industrial period, at the first federal congress at Ponte-Yuma.

Established initially as a client-state to placate a secession crisis in the ancient Kingdom of Roggveld, Roygaine established its first capital at Plodal on the shores of Lake Dal. Aided by an earthquake that devastated communities at the lower Chall River, the Roygens expanded into Thyrn territories initially in this area, setting up the historic capital at Challmor, to take advantage of coastal trade with Roggveld and cities further south. The Roygens expanded further south into the remaining Thyrn communities on the northern coasts of Fell Island and within the Fell Passage, with Sydthyrn being the only one to fend them off and maintain independence.

Southern expansion made Roygaine more powerful than Roggveld, which was seen as the supreme Royg state in name only until it fell to the Coromen Empire. The empire only agreeing to relinquish Roggveld's nominal claim on the condition that Roygaine would abandon its efforts to take Sydthyrn, which became a valued trading city for the Coromen, Dachi, and Hana states along the coast.

Following perceived over-expansion into Thyrn territory and losing Roggveld as an ally, the Yuma and southern Dachi states invaded western Roygaine, who were able to repel the attack and push further up the River Reath into Yuma territory, sacking many large cities in the Reath Valley. The Roygen state eventually took the southern kingdon of Kodachi (renaming it Dachiveld), including the western banks of the Kodachi River, the eastern slopes of Mt Kodachi, and the southern coasts of Fell Island. This conquest also involved an unsuccessful attempt to blockade the Fell Passage and subdue the Sydthyrn city-state.

With an appetite for conquest, Roygaine made it's way into Jezzar lands in the Upper Reath, and took the large city of Jezarae. With little neighbouring allies, and surrounded by the ever-powerful Roygaine State, the Dokus Kingdom submitted to being a Roygain client state although further assimilation eventually turned Dokus into an integral territory. Further expansion westward was halted by a coalition of Plays-Sant and Hana forces, and Jezarae being a large city and distant from the Roygaine home territories initially proved difficult to keep under control.

Industrialisation offered significant economic expansion to Roygaine. Developments led to the kingdom finally invading and occupying Sydthyrn with no resistance from outside forces. This did not stop Sydthyrn from having public unrest, requiring significant resources to keep under control, or alienation of Roygaine on the international stage.

Shortly after the conquest of Sydthyrn, a change in government lead to a push for environmental protection in the face of industrial expansion. Many provinces and cities that benefited from industrialisation, and otherwise felt ignored by the crown rose up against the government, and a civil war erupted. Six years of fighting and suppressing secessions lead to a compromise where the king retained nominal power, with a congress to implement legislation. A new capital at Ponte-Yuma was established for this government, away from the insular cities of Challmor, New Roygveld, and Challreath. The kingdom was federated into a commonwealth with provinces gaining more local autonomy. To mend foreign relations and keep Sydthyrn a part of the new Roygaine Commonwealth, it was offered greater autonomy with a client state status although subject to Roygen foreign policy and defence.

A five year transition period leads Roygaine to the present day. Although tensions have subsided, there is still a noticeable difference in culture between the 'kingdom' provinces in the east, and 'commonwealth' provinces to the west and south. Challmor is still the largest city, with Jezarae not too far behind to rival it.
