All human interactions, it seems, hold within them a kernel of violence, regardless of how loving a bond the participants share. How else could a lover’s love be related to war? I suppose there is hostility hiding in every act of man, however minute, because the essential motivation behind all of our most treasured relationships is the thing that causes us to reach out and forge them, lonely desperation.

Well, that's just my initial interpretation, and I'm sure it will change.
