The she-cat’s breathing had gotten heavier with every passing second. During the past moons, she was growing older and weaker, and now she was sure it was her time to pass on.

The Medicine Cat let her eyes close, curling her fluffy tail around her body. She felt a light push beside her, opening an eye she saw her apprentice laying beside her, grooming her long and tangled fur.

More cats had piled into the den, sending their regards, and well wishes to the old Medicine Cat. She had grown to be respected, and loved by the clan, she knew that it would pain them to not have her around anymore. She had been their Medicine Cat for many seasons, she was the biggest comfort to her clan when the series of murders happened.

However, none of them needed to know that she was the murderer.

The she-cat adjusted her position, staring into the eyes of her Clanmates. Eyes full of sorrow stared back at her. With the comfort of her apprentice beside her, and the presence of the cats she lived to protect, she allowed herself to fully relax as she let out her final breath, dying with the whole clan at her side. The last thing whispered to her almost made her laugh.

“May StarClan light your path.”

But that wasn’t what she wanted. StarClan wouldn’t let her in anyway, not after what she did. But she didn’t need their approval, she didn’t need them at all. The only cat she needed…

“Spidernose!” An all too familiar voice greeted her, and the she-cat opened her eyes again. She looked up to see the face of her mother, smiling brightly at her.

And for the first time in seasons, Spidernose felt like a kit again, rushing to the comfort of her mother, burying her face into the grey fur she inherited. All through her long life, this is what she was waiting for.
