Like its modern counterparts in both vexillology and heraldry, the pre-colonial Palaw-anen flag uses the colors green and yellow; given its location in relation to the core Majapahit territory (mostly through trading), the kingdom had adapted the design used by the Javanese empire (in this case square); in the green side, the seal script variant of 鳳 (hōng ) is inserted within the while circle, which the pre-colonial island kingdom had adapted, as indicated in both their legends and historical chronicles.
