I believe it's not the same Slayer Sword of The GW Games Day (if I knew what are you talking about )

hey, that's well done. it's highly detailed, well-shaped and has a realistic looking material
I only think that the middle part could need some work, you might replace the gold-material there with something else, like you did on the hand shelter and increase contrast a bit
apart from that, great work, waiting for the final.

Thanks for the suggestion, yes, I'm going to play with the shader and the textures right after the Linspire competition. I have unwrapped the model just before the competition, so, that's the part where I'm stopped....

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-14 21:23:17 +0000 UTC]

gah, unwrapping. I have so much problems with that really need to learn it, otherwise I will never be a good 3d artist *sigh*

In what package are you working ? maybe I can help with some tutorials or advices ?

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-14 21:41:36 +0000 UTC]

I use 3ds max. and can't really get behind that mystery of unwrapping. well, I think I will have to practice it until I get it!

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-09-14 22:10:10 +0000 UTC]

I used to work with 3dsMax also
Try this tutorial - [link]
It's simply the best modeling tutorial I've ever seen, helped me a lot, even when I started working with Maya, and there is also very good UVW and texturing tutorial inserted
I hope this helps you, Good Luck !

I already have that somewhere, I just had no time to go it through yet. but I will do that
by the way, what time do you have it over there? it's 0:21 here

It's 1:30 here and tomorrow (or already today to be precise) goint to be my first educational day in the Institute I'm really excited
I hope I'll wake up at 8:00 this morning Creativity doesn't let me go to bed

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-14 22:44:26 +0000 UTC]

hehe, I know that, sometimes I start working in the evening but often more in a musical way, less graphical.
what are you going to do in the institute?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-09-14 23:02:15 +0000 UTC]

learn, learn and once more, learn I entered the International Institute of Practical Psychology on faculty of Digital Design, I'm really excited and happy about that place, the building itself is very beautiful and tidy, nice atmosphere there I'm in a small group of 15 people, so the education will be more efficient, I hope that everything will work out as I'm dreaming

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-14 23:14:42 +0000 UTC]

practical psychology and digital design?? can't really imagine something under that combination, but it soudns interesting good that you have a nice athmosphere there, this is important for you to feel comfortable there and a small group of people is also nice, the learning is much more personal then
for me studying starts next year, first comes one year civil service!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-09-15 17:16:26 +0000 UTC]

And where are you planning to go then ? Maybe you have in mind some University or any other Educational Institution ?

Well, I've never thought too that practical psychology and digital design could be "under one roof", but it is working out nice as I see I'll tell more later, when the "real" education and practice begins

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-17 10:06:32 +0000 UTC]

well, I really want to get into the graphics branche...the problem is what to study...there are several private academies in germany, but I can't afford the fees. they start at about 10000 euro, and go up to 43500 euro for 2 years
so maybe I will go into media design or communication design...not sure yet, that's the problem and not sure if I will be good enough until then
what you are studying doesn't sound like something that you hear everyday, so I suppose it's not too crowded, is it?
see you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-09-19 09:48:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...the prices are really high, I can't afford such also, but I'm really happy that here is such place.
And yes, It's not too crowded here It's like the normal design/artistical school but in the basis lies Psychology.
Psychology of the client, to know what he wants and how to sell what you got to him psychology of color, and so on, not only that we could work with different tools, but also see in a different way, experement and pick something personal for every client
p.s. sorry for my english

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-22 22:31:25 +0000 UTC]

your english is ok hehe, I'm not native in english either.
hm, especially the point psychology of colour sounds great, I really do like reading colour theory sometimes, how colours work, what effect they achieve and how they affect a persons behaviour...the more you tell me about it, the more logical the combination of psychology and design appears to me
sorry for the late answer by the way.

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-09-23 21:06:33 +0000 UTC]

That's nothing, I also reply not so quickly...I mostly write replies when I'm in the mood, I just answer them all one by one
At the beginning I also thought that what could Design and Psychology have in common, sounded strange, but now I see that those "ologies" stand really close to each other...how the optical illusions are made in the letters and pictures...Tomorrow is the final working day of the week...I hope I'll get some normal sleep after that, and continue working on own projects By the way we don't study on mondays It's like a Library day, for practical studying
How is your school ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-09-23 21:25:16 +0000 UTC]

illusions...do you know M.C. Escher? he's a master of illusion... you should search the net for his "high and low" or "up and down" as it is called sometimes. a masterpiece if you ask me, some day I must purchase a print of it will fit my door perfectly
you have no school on mondays? gah I envy you
hehe, I am out of school ^^ and I got my job for civil service now it will begin in february, I'll work in a sanitarium. until then, I will make drivers license and a few practicas I hope. and continue my projects of course
at the moment I am modelling my battle buggy for a short animation a friend and I want to make

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-10-10 22:26:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I followed your suggestion, and looked up his "High and Low", I liked it Saw many similar works on the web...
By the way I'm also taking driving lessons...so in some months I will have a license I hope
Tell me more about your project ? an animation you say

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-10-10 22:46:05 +0000 UTC]

similar works? from escher? hm, too bad that a high and low print is so damn expensive.
how are the driving lessons going? I still have not started, I should talk to my parents if they will contribute to the payment.

well, the animation is something I am planning with a friend. each one of us is modelling a little battle buggy, just like my concept (that linspire submission) and then we want to do a 1 minute animation of how both are fighting against each other. not in a brutal, rather in a funny way kind of comic style, you know? a good chance to practice my modelling

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to memod [2004-10-25 08:03:55 +0000 UTC]

Blah ! I have written a reply and in the end I accidently pushed some combination of the keys and the window closed... Thank's god it's not an essay I have to give in

My driving lessons are good, the theory is really not that simple and the practical part, I mean the driving will start tomorrow I'll be driving BWM 525
As for the art and so....I decided to make some low-polygonal organic game models, just to practice my skills and tryout something new...and to show that I can I think (or Hope to be precise) I'll show something what I have done in the closest future

So, how is your animation going ? in what phase of the progress are you now ? Modeling, or are you already animating ?

Good Luck
...And again, sorry for my laziness

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

memod In reply to Ramzes-II [2004-10-25 11:30:06 +0000 UTC]

low polygonal organic? like humans? or rather some kind of animals? hm, character modelling is pretty hard I think, I just began a new had for practising purpose and I don't really like it ^^ I really need to learn the techniques.
the animation project is stuck at the moment, my friend is too busy with work, and hardly finds some free time =/ and he has another personal project running, which is pretty cool.
but I finished my fiat500, I submitted it to dA too, so if you want, have a look at it it's called "Passed times"

I still haven't begun with driving school, searching a work-experience... but no company answered so far. but today I got a new pupil for piano lessons, which is quite cool

Sorry for the non-advanced critique, but this is awesome. What kind of tools do you use for this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramzes-II In reply to bkm [2004-09-14 14:25:26 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your comment

This sword was made in 3d package - Alias Maya (like 3ds Max, Lightwave and so on...) It's a polygonal model, without any bump, height or displacement maps, just handwork Then rendered out with Mental Ray, with the use of HDRI for lightning and reflection, so, that's all, I hope I answered your question.
Feel free to ask anything else.

Good Luck !

oh, wow, the detail image is nice, but this is sooo mcuh cooler! i like the mini sword detail in the center. is the handle long enough for a two handed hold? the grip seems a bit short, but i know little about swords. add a blade!

Ramzes-II In reply to vasha [2004-09-03 07:53:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your comment ! About the handle - you are absolutelly right, I already lengthened it, so now it looks more tho-handed, it's just that the render is old
