3 seperate sittings of about 10 hours a piece.  Since this was my first model for the class our teacher wanted absolutely everything to be perfect.  There was only one image we were working from so one angle was all we could go off of.  Originally I used stick on pieces.  Meaning I just made the eyes and the mouth grill etc... separately without any holes in the geometry.  The next sitting was creating the holes.  The third sitting was to correct any errors I made.
