Description

Briefly getting back into Marvel comics, I decided to revamp my OC Gear Shifter; mostly by trying to make him as realistically plausible as possible. To that end, I made enough nodes to store enough material for a full suit, and darkened the armor’s colors to make it more receptive to sunlight and bring in more solar energy. EDIT: After reading a few more comics, I decided to update and be more detailed about my character. EDIT2: Added armor weaknesses & posted a profile on Matt's personal details here: randoman92.deviantart.com/art/…

 Name: Matthew “Matt” John Finmann
Alias: Gear Shifter
Born: September 9, 2000
Affiliation: Freelance, Ally of the Champions and/or Ironheart
Identity Status: Private to the public, known to friends & family
Universe: Earth-616F

Bio: When people grow up, the number of connections between their neurons decreases; this was not the case with Matt Finmann, who retained the trillions of connections he had since birth. These connections allowed Matt to excel through academics, earning multiple minor degrees at a young age. During a breif internship at Stark Industries, Matt caught a glimpse at designs for two of Tony Stark’s Iron Man armors; the Bleeding Edge & the Endo-Sym Armors. Matt was then inspired to design & create armor of his own, and maybe if he was lucky, become Iron Man’s partner. Once Matt acquired all of his materials (some through some questionable means), and assembled his armor, Matt took on the hero identity of Gear Shifter and joined Avengers Academy for proper “hero training.” Because Iron Man was busy with other things, Matt never got to meet his idol during his enrollment, and was stunned to hear of the death of War Machine and Stark’s coma following the second hero Civil War. Gear Shifter would then meet the newest armored hero Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart; trusting Mr. Stark’s judgment of her, Matt decided to become her partner, the “War Machine” to her “Iron Man.” Part of the reason he doesn’t refer to himself as “Iron Man” or some variation, is because he feels he hasn’t earned the right to call himself that.

Powers/Abilities:
Intellect- The greater number of neural connections in his brain provides Matt with a higher degree of learning capacity. This gives Matt a photographic memory and allows him to learn a wide range of skills, usually through some form of instruction, but these kinds of skills require some practice to perfect. These skills include, but are not limited to, fluency in Earth languages, some understanding of alien languages, basic understanding of mysticism, and well-versed knowledge of self-defense and physical combat. This high intellect also makes multitasking as second-nature to Matt as breathing. Matt's intellect does not qualify him for the "Smartest People on Earth list," because Matt's intellect merely allows him to take in and relay information; if he were to read a textbook on Applied Engineering, he would ace a test on it a second later, but it would still take him up to a month to assemble a motorcycle from scratch. A downside to this intellect is that when Matt gets an idea, he can become a bit obsessive towards achieving that idea. Also, it is not currently established as to what the exact limits of the knowledge Matt is capable of learning, or what would happen if he meets or tries to exceed those limits. Another disadvantage is that whenever Matt was bored, he would pass the time by hacking into secure networks; though nothing too serious like the Avengers’ mainframe or files on questionable black ops.
Armor- Inspired by the design of Tony Stark’s Bleeding Edge and Endo-Sym armors, Matt decided to try and create armor of his own that incorporated the basic aspects of both; nano-machines and neruo-kinetic liquid smart metal. Lacking access to repulsor technology, Matt designed the nano-machines of the armor to convert solar/electrical energy into power; allowing the armor to last up to five straight days of use before needing to be recharged. The nano-machines and liquid metal are both designed to respond to Matt’s thoughts, making the armor an extension of his body.
-Under-Suit- Made of genius cloth which conforms to the user's body, the armor’s under-suit has 36 dome/cylindrically-shaped nodes that house the armor when not in use. The nodes can be removed from the under-suit, allowing Matt to utilize small portions of the armor. The head covering of the under-suit is also lined with materials that protect Matt from mental attacks. Matt created several “back-up” suits with enough stored material to create a full Hulkbuster-like armor.
-Superhuman Physicality- The armor enhances Matt’s physical strength, speed, durability, and endurance.
-Flight- By directing energy out of the nodes located on his back and his calves, Matt is capable of achieving atmospheric flight at Mach 2.
-Shape-Shifting- The liquid metal and nano-machines of the armor allows Matt to freely change its shape to fit whatever situation is needed. The armor can mimic the properties of any material from clothing to low-grade adamantium (which can only be damaged by fully processed adamantium). The armor is also capable of extending up to one meter from the user before it loses structural stability, though this range can be extended if the material has something to adhire to; doing so however runs the risk of exposing Matt. If the material is separated from the rest of the armor, it is rendered inert; a puddle of liquid metal and nano machines, though it's partial symbiote basis allows the material to return to the armor.
-Technological Integration- As the liquid metal of Tony’s original Endo-Sym armor was based on the Venom symbiote, Matt based the liquid metal of his armor off of the cyber-symbiote of Scorn; thus allowing Matt to interface and assimilate technology into his armor. As the armor is incapable of projectile attacks, Matt uses this ability to integrate firearms into his armor. Matt also integrates various other technologies like cameras, radios, even his phone and music player to add mor functions to the armor.
-Concussion Blasts- The nodes located on the arms and chest are capable of firing concussion blasts that can knock out an average human, or at maximum power can “give a Hulk one heck of a headache.” Also by shifting the armor around the nodes, Matt can use more focused lasers, and fully using the concussion blast from the chest node will drain about half a day’s worth of power from the armor.

Weaknesses: The liquid metal of the Gear Shifter Armor is subject to intense magnetic forces (though the nano-machines are shielded against electro/magnetism), and was not designed for use in space. The armor is also limited in the size and amount of machinery/electronics it can assimilate; nothing bigger than what can be carried on one's person (phones, music players, hand-held firearms, etc.). The armor can still attach and control larger pieces of equipment to itself, but cannot maintain use of that equipment for extended periods of time (i.e. if a weapon runs out of ammo, if the equipment uses a lot of power, if Gear Shifter's abilities are impaired by the equipment, etc.).
