Description A little disclaimer before we start. The titles for the Rooster Teeth and Warner Bros segments were written before the announcement that Akira Toriyama had passed away. As the stories are not connected and written before that announcement, I’ve decided to keep them as they are, but I would like to assure you it was not done in poor taste. Life can be unpredictable and I hope you don’t take it the wrong way.

I take some time off and look what happens?

Rooster Teeth: Just Laying (six feet under).

I love how we're constantly told that everything's fine. We're in a growing and thriving industry and things could not be better. Between Bob Iger selling 80% of his stock in the Disney corporation, Warner Bros are going up like the Hindenburg, Sony are firing everybody, Sweet Baby Inc has been thrown to the wolves, Madame Webb has started something of a domino effect and everything just feels like it’s going tits up regarding movies, games and comic books.

But don't worry, guys. “Everything is absolutely fine.”

The latest casualty in the never-ending conga line of casualties is one Rooster Teeth: parent company of such popular shows like RWBY, Red Versus Blue and Death Battle to name but a few. The chief reason for this termination that I could surmise was dwindling audience reception and, according to Warner Bros, the company was “not profitable.” While it would be easy to blame all this on David Vasshole, Di’Aniss asked some friends of ours who are into the RWBY franchise and they said: "the series had been meandering these past couple of years" so this cancellation came as no surprise to them.

I don't think RWBY, Red Versus Blue and Death Battle are going anywhere. They’ll either go independent or be bought out by a different studio. Former Screwattack owner, Stuttering Craig, has made it very clear he intends to purchase back the Screwattack IP and Death Battle. I kinda hope he succeeds, for I really miss their Top 10 and Hard New segments.

Still, one of the Youtube OG’s has bit the dust. A pity really. I never did get Nemesis T Type Versus the T800.

Warner Bros: Go to Hell, and take Zasshole with you!
While it's very easy to rip low-hanging fruit like Sweet Baby Inc. to shreds, I'd rather focus on the people who signed their cheques to begin with.

Many people believe Warner Bros are the odds on favourites to go extinct first. When you consider a lot of their terrible business practices as of late, it's not hard to see why. A lot of people think that Warner Bros went broke because they got woke. I disagree. I believe they're broke because they pissed all their money away on projects nobody asked for. That and, well, we all know what a complete chunderfuck the man is charge is, but I digress.

First off: they continue to hire J.K. Rowling to spout all sorts of nonsense; to the point even George Lucas would laugh his ass off in his racecar bed. She’s also dismantling her entire franchise by making up shit as she goes along, just to piss her audience off. I’d say things would be better if she sold Harry Potter entirely to the WB, but it would probably get worse.

Zasshole: Uhuhuhuhuh, let’s liek, put Harry Potter in Justice League. That’ll sell tickets.
Gunn: Yeah yeah, heheheh. That would be cool, hehehhe.

Second: For every bit of success with things like Barbie or the Joker movie, they instantly pissed all that goodwill and money away on shit nobody asked for. Earth to Warner Bros: if the smouldering crater that was Suicide Squad: kill Rocksteady's credibility didn't tip you off (or the 2 people still playing it) it’s that people don’t want live service games. Despite giving the OK on what is considered the biggest failure of 2024 (so far) they've proudly announced we're getting even more live service games in the future; based on Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat and the DC Universe.

Well, you know what they say: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.”

Third: the idea of a DC Cinematic Universe should have been a home run victory; Considering they own arguably the greatest superheroes in the entire business (except Spider-Man obviously). And yet, not only did they miss the target, they began firing at the audience in attendance. Things started off okay with Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice (shut up it was a good film). However, right after the smash hit release of Wonder Woman, they went completely off the rails and began to produce a bunch of crap that would have been passable in the 2000s - Giving Green Lantern someone to laugh at. Shazam was okay, Black Adam was barely passable, both the Suicide Squad films bombed, The Flash was more fucked up than the lead actor, nobody saw Blue Beetle and Birds of Prey & the incredibly long title of Harley Quinn was a punchline that ended up getting shat on by Sonic the Hedgehog.

When things finally ended with Aquaman 2, nobody could pretend to care because they've already begun work on Superman Reboot #3 - 4 if you like to consider the Brandon Routh movie as a separate continuity. While they’ve set the bar as low as Satan’s basement for Superman Legacy, are general audiences going to give it a chance, considering all the goodwill they’ve pissed away with the previous DCU? I’d bring up how Superhero movies are deader than disco, but we’ve covered that already.

I fully accept what I’m about to say is incredibly childish and selfish, but I cannot wait for the WB to go extinct. The company has been mishandled by a bunch of buttheads who value dollar signs and shareholder meetings than actually producing anything of merit. At the very least, I hope somebody buys them out and fires their entire executive board - because these morons couldn't lead ants to a picnic. Disney has all the potential to turn things around and get back to profitability, but Warner is fully content to get fucked in the bed they've made for themselves.

Unfortunately for them, it’s Amber Heard’s bed.

Facebook: Offline.

This one entirely slipped me by because we were currently doing our X-Men: The Animated Series marathon (possible In 3 Panels or Less coming soon). Facebook sorta went down for a couple of hours and then came back on again - Forcing billions of people to do the unthinkable: Go outside and talk to each other.

Akira Toriyama passed away.

I really hate to end this Snark of the Week on a sad note, but it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Akira Toriyama, famed creator of Dr. Slump and Dragonball, has joined the likes of Kazuki Takahashi, Kentaro Miura and others in that great comic shop in the sky. Even if you've never read Japanese Manga, you've probably heard of Dragonball or Goku in your lifetime. What began as a loose adaptation of Journey to the West, became one of the biggest cultural phenomenons in fiction.

What I will remember and respect Toriyama for was the fact that he was always willing to think outside of the box. We're talking about somebody who took the concept of real estate speculators and somehow translated that into one of the most iconic villains in Manga history. Truly visionary thinking. The constant changes he had to make to the Cell Saga was testament alone to the fact he never really gave up on his ideas.

And lastly can we just truly appreciate that he created Dragonball Super out of spite as to what 20th Century Fox did with the atrocious Dragonball Evolution movie. I think his exact words were: “I did not want that piece of crap to be the last thing associated with Dragonball!” With that kind of mindset, you really have to doff hat at this motherfucker. I haven't seen cast iron balls that huge since Toho bought the rights to the American Godzilla - just to kill him off with the OG. Take that, America!

I am planning to pay my respects to Toriyama this year with a Dragonball Z In 3 Panels or Less comic. But for now: rest in peace, good sir. You truly were the inspiration for a lot of Manga/Anime artists, daresay even just general storytellers all over the world.

Also, don't lie to yourself. You tried doing the Kamehameha at least once in your life.

Honourable mentions: Mar10 Day. R Rated Venom Movie announced (don't get excited for it's directed by Seth Rogen).
