Yay.... Another Sonic character.

Sega, I think it's time we had that chat.

You ever thought that adding more characters won't solve the problem? But instead just make it worse? I'm not saying you can't have more characters. I mean you were doing just fine with Tails, Knuckles and Amy in all honesty. Yet you threw in more and more to the point that it's become a bad thing. Even when something good did come along with Blaze the Cat, the notion of "Sonic characters" have almost become bad words to many fans. I've known people who refused to even play a new Sonic game when I told them it has a new character.

Before I go on. I wanna give you my thoughts on the Sonic characters as a whole.

I'm gonna put them in 3 groups.

I like them. - Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Blaze, Metal Sonic and Robotnik.

I think they need some work. - Espio, Vector, Shadow, Rouge.

And Kill it with fire!!! - Charmy, Cream, Jet, Wave, Storm, Marine, Chao, Big, Eggman Nega and anyone else I didn't mention.

In fact, all you really need is 4 main characters, some side characters who are off and on again and 3 main villains. The Super Mario series nailed this aspect perfectly. With Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad as our main heroes. Who occasionally hang out with side characters like Yoshi or Daisy who fight against King Koopa, Koopa Jr or the Koopa Kids.

Sega shat out so many forgettable characters that only got one game or just forgotten instantly. Remember Ray the Flying Squirrel? Fang the Sniper? Bark the Polar Bear? Or the long forgotten and sorely missed Mighty the Armadillo?

I myself also make characters, yet I've spent entire months working on them so they're unique or have a developed personality. Even to this day I've spent hours thinking on how to adjust them or improve their designs, speech patterns and personality. Yet looking at Sonic characters Sega shits out, can you honestly say they have a personality apart from stereotypes or a trope?

Even my Kratos Honey Badgers is more unique and original than "I'll be in this series then you'll never see me again" the Badger.

Let me be honest, I tried being open minded about this. I know people will tell me "JUST GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!!!" However I also gave Big the Cat, Charmy Bee, Shadow the Hedgehog, Cream the Rabbit, Silver the Hedgehog and the Babylon Rogues a chance too. I'm kinda out of chances to give Sega at this point. Now the natural argument is "But Sonic Team isn't behind this!" which is a valid point. Yet my first reaction was "Oh? Marine's in Sonic Boom!" and after watching her introduction video on Youtube I'm leaning more towards "I'm going to hate this character with a burning passion!" than her being the greatest thing ever.

She looks like an Australian outback stereotype (complete with tattered rags and a boomerang) talks like Dale Gribble from King of the Hill and a has voice like nails on a chalk board! Then again, arguing about Sonic voices at this point is entirely pointless because the "Sonic Fanbase" have turned that argument into a laughing stock. Nobody will ever be good enough for them. You could have Frank Sinatra, Robert Downey Jr, Ben Kingsley, Kate Winslet or Sir Ian McKellen doing the voices... and they'd still hate it.

Then again, the games could be made by Nintendo, written by Paul Dini, a 2.5D title using sprites with zero voice acting..... And they'd still hate it.

But back to Sticks.

"Oh but she's cute and FUNNY!!!!!" I hear yee cry, but I also remember the last time somebody tried that!

Plus would it kill them to be a little more creative with names? I mean first Tails, then Knuckles, followed by Shadow, Rouge, Cream, Blaze, Silver and now Sticks.

Why not Brick? Floor? Window or Noun while you're at it!! Look I know this is nitpicking but all I'm asking is you TRY!! You have made decently named characters before. Espio, Vector, Mephiles or just plain old Sonic. Judging by her name I can already picture the announcement of her getting a sidekick called Stones.

Who have a weakness to names... Hey this shit writes itself

The other major problem I have is "Sticks the Badger" looks too much like the highly forgettable Marine the Raccoon. Maybe change the colour scheme a bit and made her black and white? Then again this universe has blue and pink Hedgehogs so maybe that's a moot point!

I just dislike Sticks mainly because I've seen where this has gone before. However I am willing to see the first episode to see what she does and form a proper opinion from there.

But as they say "First Impressions count"

Also, do give me a shout when Wallpaper the Walrus, Carpet the Caterpillar, Suck the Squid and Noun the Verb show up.

You know what? I've used that Suck the Squid line a few times now. I might go make that a thing
