Description The original lognkosaur, whose completeness was not matched until the discovery of Dreadnoughtus and later Patagotitan. While originally attributed a length of up to 34 meters, Futalognkosaurus is the first of the giant lognkosaurs to have had its length accurately estimated - way back in 2008, Calvo revised its length to ~26 meters based on the Rincón titanosaur's caudal proportions. The discovery of Patagotitan gives further support to the length of the tail as roughly 50% of total length, which, combined with the full preservation of the spine up until the last sacral, prevents it from being downsized.

Less well-known is the fact that it also preserves several limb elements, including femur, fibula, humerus, radius, ulna and metacarpals; I may have to revise my previous titanosaurs' manuses with this information, although the changes probably won't be massive. Living in the Portezuelo Formation, Futalognkosaurus would have coexisted with the ornithopod Macrogryphosaurus, the megaraptoran Megaraptor, several small coelurosaur theropods such as Unenlagia and Patagonykus, and fellow, more basal titanosaur Malarguesaurus.

PS: Only five vertebrae are figured in lateral view in Calvo et al (2007), and only a few more have measurements, plus the total length of the sacrum. As such, the neck and torso are HEAVILY based on 's version; full credit goes to him on that.

Credits for help with the making of this skeletal:
Calvo et al (2007) for figures and measurements of preserved bones.
Benson et al (2014) for allometric limb regression equation.
Gallina & Apesteguia (2011) for Bonitasaura skull profile.
for Futalognkosaurus skeletal, which stood in for the unfigured vertebrae.

11m for the precaudal body, approx.12m including the skull, would be the correct measurement; that's what was measured by Calvo, who actually had access to the fossil.

Nice! Can we get with one with a pose like that of Scott's and/or Nima's?

Thanks!

This one, Mendozasaurus and Quetecsaurus are in Hartman-esque poses, they just look a bit tilted because the hind limbs are longer proportionally than in his Futalogn.

Lucky - the largest dinosaur I've ever seen was a Patagosaurus.

Good skeletal, and another downsize (though a minor one, for a change  )
