Description THANK GOODNESS IT'S SUMMER!
**strips** WHOOO! LIFE! TIME! FREEDOM!
STAYING HOME ALL DAY WATCHING ANIME, READING MANGA, PLAYING POINTLESS VIDEO GAMES, AND DRAWING!
-Ah, the life of an Otaku...

Summer is great!! I really love all the time, and relaxing! I still do some work for cash, but I don't have a JOB JOB. Just odd jobs, baby sitting, public speaking! Fun beans!!

>o>; I had to ink this entire flab-dabbing picture in a .2 Micron inking pen, because it was the only one I had. [Only one that worked/ that I could find....] I run out of inking pens fast! D: Probably because I press hard XD;;;

Anywho, this is MY LOVELY RANDOM KWEEN!!!! She loves summer too!! This is my personal tweak of her outfit to fit a more 'swimsuit' look. I kinda like it!!! Because, she has her 'always outfit', but I mean, she has a closet too! XD She doesn't rotate the same shirt daily. I'm sure she'd mix it up....I just don't let her XD XD

SCANNERS KILL EVERYTHING >: O I swear it looks better in person....I liked my old scanner better >..>

Miss, I cannot say that that I like this pic, However, I do like your enthusiasm. So, please, take a while and study up on anatomy, facial structure and eyes. Some of the best tutorials on devantart can be found at this [link]

Well, I really appreciate your blunt honesty! I'm no 'artist', but I'll do my best every time

So, if you don't mind, since you already brought it up, could you point out specifics? Because for me anatomy, facial structure, and eyes is rather broad...what don't you like?

Its not just any one little thing that I take issue with. Overall your style is jarring and feels off because you obviously do not have a grasp of how to draw people from the real world. Art styles, and anime in particular, are just a series of shortcuts and broken rules that evolved out of trying to represent the realistic form in an easy and appealing manner. And as my old Croatian art teacher used to say "you can't break the rules well without first knowing them".

What I would really recommend is going back to the basics. Doing artist studies of life. set aside your personal style for a while and draw people as they really exist. You can come back to your style and apply everything you've learned from normal people later.

Posemaniacs [link] is a great resource for learning body construction, as you see the muscles of the human body, making it easier to see the base shapes humans are made of.

In an attempt to take this comment as a critique, which is a rather difficult task, seeing as how this appears to be a simple trolling message, I will break down the basis of what your comment was essentially saying.
A: You are correct in saying that this artist, RandomKween, is not 100% in her anatomy structures. That is not to say, however, that it was not intended. After filtering through the previous works of Miss RandomKween, I have noticed her attraction to the Chibi style of Manga, and the reoccurring Chibi themes throughout her art. Her slightly disoriented poses and body structures are not drawn in a way to upset the viewer, but merely in a way to create an innocent, childish character.
B: In a second re-evaulation of Miss RandomKween's previous artworks, a study of the basics appears to be exactly what she is attempting to do. A tweak and a change of her style throughout her gallery is a constant, showing a desire to challenge herself and try new things, while retaining information on the human structures. She is simply posting the pictures of her studies, looking for tips and tricks from other friends and onlookers. Trial and error is the best, and most effective way for an artist to learn. I sure hope your Croatian teacher taught you that as well.
C: Your recommendation of setting aside a personal style to study structure alone, though to some other styles of art is helpful, is simply absurd to an anime artist. Designing characters in the manga style revolves entirely around personal styles and opinions. Asking Miss RandomKween to simply drop that to study the human figures would be like asking a sculpting artist to create an oil painting. It is simply a turn-off to the art.
And as a small note to your critiquing styles; Please re-evaluate some aspects. The tutorial links are a lovely touch, but are lost with your harsh and superior tones. In your critique, you appear to confuse two entirely different artistic styles, blurring lines that the artist you are critiquing may not want to blur. Please, also provide specifics. By saying an artist's entire style is "jarring and off" is crossing a line from a polite critique to a rude troller. Specifics and details will help that, and provide you with more respect from the reader.
Neuroticfanboy; Thank you for your tutorial posts, and your critique.
Miss RandomKween; Thank you for your art, and your time.

"Asking Miss RandomKween to simply drop that to study the human figures would be like asking a sculpting artist to create an oil painting."

No, it would be asking a sculptor who only makes 'okay at best' art deco-style clay urns to learn how to make pots first. You are correct, trial and error is the best learning too, but you, and follow me here, this is really goddamn important and cannot be ignored for anyone who wants to be considered an artist: YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT SOMETHING LOOKS LIKE WHEN DRAWN CORRECTLY BEFORE YOU CAN DRAW IT WRONG AND HAVE IT STILL LOOK GOOD! Trial and error applies there too. Draw real people, they will not be right at first, but through trial and error they will get better and better. And then once you are happy enough with those results star applying stylization to it. Reduce the line counts, alter the proportions, start drawing inhuman anime eyes.

The term "anime artist" is a shield bad artists, beginner artists but have yet to understand the cycle of learning and douchebag internet white knights use to pretend like someone doesn't need to learn the basics of life drawing before they can do anything else well. I'm glad she's trying and I hope she improves, but anatomy studies are the only way she can improve on a real level.

And a little bit of harshness is called for, it takes strong words to emphasize that the artist needs to work on something. Polite "I like this, but that needs work" might work with some, but more often will be ignored when "this is bad, but keep trying, I know you can do better" will trigger something within the artist and make them work harder.

Drawing real people is exactly what she is attempting to do just simply in her own style and designs. I do not appreciate the temper playing here, and I ask you politely that you retain from being a complete douche-bag, as you call it, before I report you for being a rude troll on a website that does not tolerate such aggravation.

Now, knowing what something looks like may help, and I know that some artists will improve from practicing illustrations of realistic figures. But not all do. Your way is not the only way to learn, and most certainly not the only way to succeed. Asking a guitar player to practice chords makes sense in most peoples eyes, but I have met many very talented guitar players who don't know the difference between a C chord and an A minor. That does not mean they are not fantastic musicians. This is what I was mainly pointing out to both you and Miss RandomKween. There are hundreds of thousands of ways to learn and to improve. You are simply pledging one of them, and it has a very high chance of not being the best for Miss RandomKween. She very clearly has designed her own method of improving, and if you think she needs a different method that i just fine. But forcing that upon her makes you seem like an arrogant jerk, and not someone she would listen to. I know I certainly wouldnt.

The term "Anime Artist" is used by hundreds of thousands of talented, published manga artists, (Mark Crilley), animators, (Hayao Miyazaki), and many others. Your silly stereotypes of immature artists being anime artists is offensive and incorrect. Anime is a well respected subdivision of art, with entire societies, lifestyles, countless employments, all devoted to that simple style. You are also very hypocritical, seeing how nearly 90% of your favorites are Manga-esque pictures, drawn by ANIME ARTISTS.

A little bit of harshness is most certainly NOT called for. It is the difference between a friendly tip to a rude statement. One will be accepted, and one will be rejected. You are, however, confused on which is which. You are not on deviantart as a critique writer, to be rude and disgruntling. You are here for a gentle nudge in the right direction. If that advice is ignored, it is not your fault or responsibility. But angering and upsetting the artists from the beginning is most certainly not the way to get yourself noticed or listened to.
