I've sometimes criticised Volkswagen for being a little too sedate in its approach to concepts and design studies, but Gran Turismo and its producerKazunori Yamauchi have encouraged them to pull out a few more stops than usual in the production of this crazy concept for inclusion in the Playstation 3 title, Gran Turismo 6. One of a number of manufacturers invited to participate by developing an outlandish concept model, Volkswagen has gone with its tried and true brand, the GTI, but have basically turned all the dials up to 11. Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 developing 500hp, with a seven-speed DSG box and four wheel drive, this 2-seat roadster is actually drivable in real life with a probable sub-4 seconds 0-60mph time, although I doubt it will make production any time soon!

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, the results are quite pleasing. I'd like to hope for a limited production run, but you know that's never going to happen. Keep your fingers crossed for the Golf R400 instead!

I didn't! I was pretty busy up at the rally track and top end of the hill grabbing photographs most of the day, had no idea it was there otherwise I would have swung by.
