Wow - I thought it was watercolor. I had it in my head that egg tempera gave results like oil. Interesting.

It can be used in washes just like watercolor but the color has more depth. The colors seem to sit more on the surface of the paper like acrylic than sinking in completely like watercolor. The one problem with egg tempera is the tendency to be lifted out by accident. With watercolor this would leave a light spot ready to be repainted but with egg tempera it leaves a hole in the paint as if you scraped out. I've only had a real problem with this on certain papers which I'm guessing had more size. I'm going to try this on 100 cotton and I'm hoping the problem will all but disapear.
