Description Yes, I know why Pit can't fly on his own, but before my friend told me the story of Icarus (the dude from Greek Mythology whose wings melted cuz they were made of wax or something), I had no clue.

So I had this picture in my mind for a few days, and after many attempts were...attempted, I got this picture drawn out this morning. Some things may not look correct though, since it was done from memory. (I changed some things I was missing later on though) Enjoy!

Kid Icarus is pretty much the reason I passed my Greek history test X_X
My friend asked me if I knew why Pit couldn't fly even though he has wings. I responded, "Do you know why ostriches can't fly even though they have wings?"

Yeah I think the theory behind Pit not flying is the story of Icarus, but I'm not too sure cuz Pit still has wings.

Really? Where? (or is it a level in the game? Cuz I think there may have been some reference in the level where you played as Dark Pit)

I just read an article from a fan site. They're pretty sure cuz 1. Palutena is a reference to Palla Athena which is what the Greeks called Athena. 2. Pit loses his wings in the game. 3. Its called Kid icarus. 4. HADES ! I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything. I'm just looking at an article!

So he can't fly on his own? Hmm, did not know that, even though I've known about the story of Icarus since I was about 6.

Yeah, I wondered why the title was called that when the kid's name was Pit... When you add the Greek Myths to it, everything starts to make sense. (It sucks to have wings but not be able to use them, doesn't it??)

Greek Myths are always fun. Mainly thanks to Between the Lions and the Percy Jackson series. Especially the Percy Jackson series. Now if only I'd known about them during my 7th grade gifted English Greek Mythology unit...

And yeah, that would be horrible. Having wings, right there on your back mocking you every day, but not being able to use them. Plus, everyone would be like, "Hey! Hey, kid with the wings! Hey! Fly for us!" And then you'd have to explain how you can't fly and people would have reactions along the lines of "lame!" "AHAHAHA!" "Well...that sucks." etc. And then...

I put a bit too much thought into this.

Speaking of wings, if you could fly, what would be the first thing you would do?

Sounds like a kid's life with wings but the inability to fly would be a good (or at least a funny) story to make.

Hmmmmm... I think I'd like to go on a tour around the world. (I am poor so I've never been to many places) And as long as the countries' governments don't shoot me down, I'd love to see where I could go.

What about you?? Oh and what colors would you want them to be? (Mine would probably be black and red.)

Hmm, part of me feels like I'd want to create some sort of a flying karate and fight people on the street, perhaps visit a few places I've never seen (Area 51 sounds like a fun place), etc. But in all honesty....

I'd probably drink a whole lot of water, find a group of people I don't like, unzip my pants, and grace them with a golden shower of urine. Yeah, kinda messed up, but it seems like it would be oddly satisfying.

Oh, and if my wings had a color, they'd probably be blue and white. You know, kinda like the sky on a nice day.

Plus, I think I may want to write a story like that. I'm still working on my Adventure Time Fanfic (school work ruins everything) but I think I'll squeeze it in.

Lol I like your idea actually. And that would be a really nice color blend.

Ooh if you do write a story, can you post it here? (and please, PLEASE no "fallen angel" stuff! I'm not saying that's where you were going at, but I rather dislike those sort of books and their "facts". It's like the Twilight series...)

My idea was more rooted in reality. A.k.a He's simply seen as a mutation. When he's first born, you'd have news agencies wanting cameras on him 24/7, his name would be in every paper from here to Hong Kong, Scientist would want a few gene samples and would be scrambling to figure out how the hell this happened, etc, etc. But his parents, not being idiots, would tell everyone to back off a bit. Perhaps they'd let a few news crews get a few pics and interview, a few doctors and scientist do minor tests to insure his health, but mostly they'd tried to give him a normal life. Then the whole will-he-be-able-to-fly questions is introduced by some stupid news reporter and things get iffy. I'm still working it out.

That actually sounds good. He'd need some pretty damn big wings to fly though. And depending on how heavy he is, they'd need to be really strong. Than there's care and keeping of the wings etc... A lot of research crap if you want to be really specific.

I've been thinking about it and here's the plan. At some point, some science guys do the math, make a few discovers about his body, (bone structure, etc) and make the shocking announcement that "At some point, this young man should be easily capable of flight, perhaps even achieving heights and speeds of" etc, etc. This puts a lot of pressure on him however. Humanity has always wanted to fly on their own free will, seeing another human do this alone could satisfy this urge. However, he never really figures it out, can't get off the ground, anyone who isn't a scientist looses interest, and life becomes pretty normal. Aside from the fact that he has wings and his social life isn't in the best condition.

So in the end, his wings are more like a disability, sorta like people who have tails or extra arms. He really use them and they actually tend to get in the way of things (clothing, weighing him down while swimming, etc) and this has caused some pretty bad moments growing up.

Holy crap, I am really loving this idea.

Heehee I can tell. You're getting really into it. (It's a good idea too) ...dang, now you've got me into the idea; I have an urge to draw the character now.
