Description My first sculpt of 2010!
This is my latest attempt to get in to Spectrum for this year.
I've been wanting to sculpt a bust for a long time now but haven't had a chance due to other obligations.
I'll post better shots tomorrow but I felt like submitting something tonight for the heck of it.
This was inspired by my photomanip titled Father Phineas O Mallyce... [link]
As you can see, I aged him a bit and added a hand to give it a little more excitement.
The original image I found was from a creepy story about a catholic priest that was found guilty of murdering a nun years ago...The story can be found here...
[link]
The piece stands about 23 1/2 inches tall.
Hope you like it...

I was really intimidated at first too...
You'll be amazed at how quickly your confidence grows when you just dive in...(nudge nudge)

Ever used Super Sculpey?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

InkyDinkyWho In reply to RandyHand [2010-01-08 18:41:59 +0000 UTC]

Actually yes, I can do little stuff with that but I've never tried anything bigger than a fairy... Which was a long time ago so maybe they wouldn't come out so ugly now. lol

RandyHand In reply to InkyDinkyWho [2010-01-08 20:48:20 +0000 UTC]

Sculpey is good to get re-aquainted with the feel of sculpting...
Oil based clay or sculpting wax is a great way to start with anything bigger than barbie doll sized work.
Just be patient with the learning curve...
You'll be amazed at how quickly you improve with practice.

Good luck!

You’re right there it’s pretty forgiving, I need to get back to it all I’ve made lately is bracelet charms. And I would love to do something bigger than a Barbie. Lol
Well thank you for the encouragement, I’m going to go for it as soon as possible.

Thanks again, take care.

Can imagine that.

So is this what sprung from that discussion we had or something else entirely?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RandyHand In reply to Djoseph [2010-01-08 17:44:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes it is!...
It's funny because I had all intentions of sculpting a fish head dude creature monster bust, and then when you said in one of your messages, something to the effect of..."I look forward to seeing your Spectrum entry all the more now" something just clicked.
I thought, the father O Mally pic would really lend itself to a Spectrum entry....so it took a nasty turn...hee hee...
The only downside is that I don't think I'll have the time to finish the Evolution of Vampyre piece before the Jan. 22nd deadline this year.
I just devoted way too much time to this sculpt...time that now I need to put towards commission work..poop....
I'm still going to do the E. O. V. piece no matter what....
Thanks for flipping that switch for me! I'm really glad I did this piece as opposed to my original idea...
Take care

Djoseph In reply to RandyHand [2010-01-10 15:49:39 +0000 UTC]

Man... had no idea whatsoever.

If anything could encourage me to continue to comment on your works it's this. Glad to see that E.O.V will still be done.

A pleasure to be of service, even though I had no idea. Almost better that way.

Good luck with the commissioned pieces now! Father O'Mallyce will blow away all the competition I'm sure.

Thanks man!
Yeah, it's weird how different conversations and influences can lead you on different paths...
It is probably good you didn't know...
It's more natural that way and that's how it should be...
I've had experiences in the past where I've told a good friend that they played a pivotal role in what direction I'm going, whether it be with my art, or other situation.
Then for a while they try to come up with more advice or catch phrases that they think might have the same impact.
They don't realize that it clicks for some reason or another because it occurred naturally and for a specific reason and at the right time, and was in a way, meant to be.
Sorry for blabbing so much...must be the coffee...
anyways, thanks again Josef!
Take care,
Randy
