Description This is the first in a series of pieces I'll be doing...I'm calling it Sticks and Stones simply because that's what the original will be made of. I got the idea from making my wifes b-day present "Skellytree"
I take driftwood or stones or both and try to morph them in to whatever they should be morphed in to. Sometimes the pieces already have an image in them that needs to be enhanced. This particular piece I found while hiking. I try to make sure something isn't already living in it, i.e. spiders, bugs of any kind, or snakes, so I don't feel as guilty, picking it up and using it. If possible, when I'm done with it, I also try to return it to it's original location cuz it would have decayed and been part of where it was eventually. Sounds cheesy, but I try to be as low impact as possible.
This is a resin cast but I just finished two bronze castings of it and they will be sent to a client who is building a house down south. They are going to use them as door handles. One will face up and the other down so it will be kind of a cool effect. If I get shots from them once they are installed, I'll add those too.
This piece measures 15 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 5 inches high. Hope you like it...

Yeah, I wanted to make it look like it was morphing out of the wood....
I got a ton of other ideas along that line that I'm working on as well.
Thanks again!

I like this work too, it's a very nice gift, with all elegance, little green lizard (green is my favourite colour) is in a harmony with the brunch. It looks like a something from fairytale or a mystical thing from elven land. All details, like feather-like leaves or spider are so well-done and cute. =^__^=

Thanks so much! Yeah, I had a lot of fun with this. I'm going to try to do future pieces like this as 3d sketches. Kind of quick and loose. Some pieces will end up having more detail but as long as i keep it free form, it will stay with my original intent.
Thanks again!

Thank you too. Maybe it's a nice practice to do sculptures.

You bet! I've always felt that it's really good practice to jump back and forth from drawing to sculpting now and then. The importance of drawing is key though. I feel that if you can't draw well, you shouldn't be sculpting (or at least casting your sculptures) until you do draw well.

So you can cast bronze in the same mold you cast resin?
I love that you have concern for your impact on the environment. I often worry the resin and chemicals I use aren't so great for it.

I almost didn't notice that spider!

Good eye, finding the spider!
Yep, you can use the same mold for both resin and the hot wax poured for the bronze casting process. You should use silicone for the mold material though. You can use Urethane molds for resin if you have to, but they need to be coated with Polycoat which is a Polytek product.
The resin casting material I use is oder free. Another Polytek product. So I feel better about the whole fume thing even though it may still release some fumes. The chemicals I use for coloring bronzes and for other things, I try to keep from getting in to the landfills and waterways. Some parts of the processes just can't be helped but I think if it's kept to a minimum it will have the least amount of impact
Thanks again,
Take care
