Description Large drawings take me forever to do, and I tend to make a mess of things. Especially when the paper I'm using is crap. This was about 20 hours of work, and a real pain in the arse. Not the best way to ring in the new year. lol

I used a variety of graphite pencils and some black and white charcoal as well. Also plenty of blending stumps and tissues.

11x17 on gray paper.

EDIT: I messed around with it in Photoshop a little bit to make the scan resemble the original a bit more.

Even though it was "work" for you to complete this. It really paid off. Extremely moody and the details in the shirt are exquisite. This technique really appeals to the subject matter. Great job!

Thanks. Yes the shirt and tie were so tedious that by the time I was finished I wanted to have a good cry. I think the dark and grimy feel works well with the subject as well, but I don't really think I will try using charcoal for anything else in the near future. Way out of my comfort zone. I prefer a cleaner and more precise approach personally.
