I'm going to be listing some of my handmade deer bone jewelry on Etsy soon, but I figured I'd post it here to get some feedback first.
All of these are knuckle bones from a yearling white-tailed deer I found as roadkill. They’re some of the more interesting bones I have to work with, because if you look on the ends, you can see where the epiphyseal plate (also called the growth plate) was starting to fuse to the bone—in other words, this deer was still growing when it died. These bones were minimally degreased before they were bleached with peroxide, which means that with time and repeated wearing, they will start to take on a warm, slightly yellow cast and a pleasant waxy feel. The bones themselves have a cool, quiet energy, and a calm but stubborn spirit.
Gunmetal wire, plastic seed beads, and an acrylic bead that looks strikingly like a peacock ore druzy. The pictures do not do its colors justice. The dangle is attached to the main wrapping and does not move much, but when worn, it lays flat, with the druzy facing forward. This particular one has stolen my heart, so I don’t believe I’ll sell it, but I may make one just like it and list it for $20-22.
