Oh, really? I thought that in Spanish "diaper" was "Patrón de diamante"...but if you want to know how I understand it, "diaper" and "napkin" are NEVER synonymous, although you just implied that.
And exactly what I meant is shown in this thread; two words in Spanish are identically spelled (ignoring diacritics) but mean two entirely different things! Couldn't they instead write "ñ" as "ng"?
Another example is: si and sí also have different meanings.

"Patrón de diamante"... o_o.....??WHAT? Jajaja!
"patrón de diamante" literally means "diamond pattern" or "a pattern made of diamond"...what the hell is that? 0_o
"Napkin" is "servilleta", I never implied or talked about napkins (or "servilletas") anywhere 0_o
As for the identically spelled thing, I know what you mean but you show a bad example, since a tilde (this--> ´) IS an integral part of Spanish as a language, and thus an integral part of spelling and pronunciation
In English, you can find identical spelled words that can only be correctly interpreted if they are pronounced or read in context. (Case in point: "desert", "bark", "left", "stalk" and many more)
These are called "homographs" and "homonyms".
(We have them in Spanish too, like "vino", "viste", "como" etc.)
Where are you getting your Spanish from, just curious

Jeg snakket.
Jeg kan fikse det; ved å lære å flytende snakke disse språkene.
Mine aner: Tysk (fars familie) og Engelsk (mors familie). En store hinder mot mitt prosjektet av Engelsksfjerning.

Actually, look at how much usage of English words has been corrupted by those damnable Americans!
Next, I suppose you'll call an grill an boiler, an tramp an hobo and Autumn Fall, and also suggest that mad, though clearly meaning insane, means angry.
