Great digital art! I love this soft lineart and - shading. You've shown well characters of both kittens - Shark Smores - more playful and adventurous, and Coconut Lavender - more serious and maybe - distant. Yup, I know that backgrounds can be difficult or maybe at least very boring to do- but maybe this piece of art doesn't need it?

I think the rock pool itself offers a clear scenario, so a background just offers additional colours rather than more to the scene. I am a firm believer that, especially in DTAs, the character you concentrate your efforts on should be key in the scene, instead of being swallowed up by it, so I am happy you can read the characters well here!Β

Yup, You have a point, but there's another possibility - a situation when background helps to show character's personality or - helps to make character more visible. But in this situation - there is partial backround - pool and sky, and all two (three?) characters have background (there aren't any character parts outside the this scene). And - this piece of art looks like some with background, but non-isometric. Anyway - picture is very nice, one of my fav here - and I wish You good luck.

Haha I bet they did xD it's hard when you're playing around with textures in backgrounds. Water is probably the most tricky, but the most fun as well.
Tutorials are always fun x3 I've learned like, 3 different ways to color in eyes.

Rockpools certainly hold some great childhood memories for me, so I am happy I ended up with the sketch that led to this image! I drew Shark Smore Pops a few days ago, and ended up redrawing his pose to suit the position of the pool and rocks a lot better. Really glad I did!
