Description Photoshop tweaked Graphite drawing from reference.

Found the ref on Deviant but can't for the life of me remember who owned the photo so I can't credit it yet. I'll work on tracking that down.

Tone down the line work with in the lips and work on a value change.

If I were focusing on value changes, I wouldn't have the outlines throughout the whole thing. I decided to add the line work after I was done shading. So ha. Mr. Sassy loses.....

Let me be more specific, on her bottom lip the line is to dark around the highlight and makes it look more like a piece of dried skin, like she needs some chap-stick, you dropped the value of the containing line on the highlight on her nose you should have given the lip the sam treatment, and focused more on the value on the bottom side of the upper lip.

Check… (obligatory chess reference)

2 points:
I see the outline on the highlight of the bottom lip. But I also see the outline around various highlights of the helmet. I was trying to mix graphic lined work with more value stuff. (helmet has both outlined and nonlined highlights as does face) I was trying to play with the contrast between Graphically outlined forms with shaded ones. (outline hair vs rendered face) The intention was there, however, whether or not it works, is up for interpretation.

Secondly, how do you give lips the "Sam Treatment?"

Thanks for explaining what you meant.... got question for you so call me after worrrrrrrrrrk!

Two Points redux:

The lip has a different texture than the helmet and there for should have a different treatment to help define the hard protective texture of the helmet and the soft supple texture of her lips.

The Sam treatment, is a little "hows your father"..., I meant the same treatment, you crazy crazy art guy.

I just saw this so it is probably too late to call, now, I'll call you on Friday my friend.

Your pal and mine,

Sam
