Description (Alternative title: Call to adventure)

Castor walked aimlessly through the nook, helping out with organizing all the new eggs and cleaning up after the younger wynglings. With another population boom in the nook inbound, Castor’s mind wandered once again to the forest. His adventure in the wilds WEEKS ago now still gnawed at the back of his mind. The things he saw out there were like nothing he had seen or been told about before.

Castor had gone to the library soon after coming home from his adventure and scoured every single book on the shelves. There were a few books on farm puckoo that made passing mentions to wild ones, a few books regarding rattle cattle hunting season, and a small encyclopedia on bugs but that’s about it as far as what was covered. It left him wanting to learn more… What about the wild wyngrew? Were they something that just happened in wynsiph? How do they live and think? What about the other monsters he heard in the dark? He never got a good glimpse but they were definitely something strange. If he had told anybody about this, they would surely have just told him he’s crazy but he was sure of it all…

Castor was broken out of his thoughts by a soft pat on the back. Alma was staring at him concerned as he was polishing the same spot of floor for the past five minutes.

“Castor dear? Why don’t you go get some fresh air? You seem to be a little out of it today.” Said the older wyngro.

Castor simply nodded and left the bucket and rag there for another gro to pick up where he left off. He walked out into the front yard of the nook and sat down in the grass, watching wynglings run around outside.

What WERE those things he had heard? His mind begged him to find out more. Surely though if he told anybody about them he would be called crazy for it… What if he did find them though and was able to show everybody? How though? Wynsiph had no semblance of a zoo, and hardly any books on wildlife either.

“That’s it! A book!” He said out loud, quickly covering his mouth afterwards with a few wynglings starting at him funny.

Castor got up and ran as quick as he could to the markets, buying up a blank book and supplies for writing and drawing with what few coins he had. He stopped by the nook for a moment more to grab his box of treasures and drop off whatever coins he had left.

He would write a field guide to all of the wilds of Wynsiph. With pictures and information about each and every creature he came across. There were strange things hidden in the wilds of this rural town and he would find them and show everybody his discoveries!

Castor stopped for a moment to catch his breath. He stood at the fence to a farmer’s field that he used to sneak into when he was younger. The last time he was here he was running around and harassing the bubs, but this time he was here for a different purpose. He hopped the fence easily and walked over to the pond where the farmer’s dunce of puckoo were found and sat down with his book across his lap. Might as well start with something easy. Puckoo were much the same captive as they are in the wild.

As he wrote, a puckoo that was just a bub last time he was here laid down by his leg to take a nap. Castor looked over and smiled. “Looks like you’ve grown too little guy.” He said, and reached into his box for a rock he had found out in the woods and set it down next to the puckoo as a sort of peace offering.
