Description
The Facebook page I used to be a part of hosted an OC competition sometime ago and I was chosen as one of the admins to draw the 5 winners.
This was the second place winner
Speed draw: youtu.be/kBBjZu0zNAQ
Name: Periwinkle Magnus Suono
Based from the color Periwinkle, the color of her eyes that her parents immediately fell in love with at birth, she's known as an up and coming rock star within the kingdoms. Her middle and last names deal with sound, Magna meaning loud like her cries and overall approach to living life, and Suono meaning sound itself.
Perri for short
Gender: Female Age: 17 (Home schooled, but enrolling as a first year in Beacon around season 2's start. Evacuates with the rest during the fall of beacon)
Species: Human, no companion.
Color: Periwinkle, she has streaks of it all throughout her design, her eyes, and the base of her weapon, Siren's Ballad
Symbol/Emblem: A central circle, but the top and bottom of the circle have shockwaves emanating from there that form the shape of crowns. The sides of the circle have 2 shockwaves coming towards the sides for both sides . The middle of the circle is also cracked like a fissure.
Appearance: Perri is a shorter girl, about 5'2 in height. She has a weight that's about 120-125 pounds. Her skin tone is very light, but with a simple blush that barely puts her above being pale, similar to a light peach colored tone from a crayon box. Her eyes a bright periwinkle, they've been described as always having "a spark of mischief." She's somewhat muscled in her arms (her likening of setting up and tearing down her own shows, she rarely uses roadies and builds muscle from it). Her long fingers help both in fighting and playing her guitar as they keep her shots true in bow form, has a great locking grip in axe form, and allows her to play amazing guitar rifts on both necks of the siren's ballad. Her apparel is a pop punk style of ripped black jeans with periwinkle fishnets showing through the rips. As you get further down, the rips are bigger and the stockings are more noticeable. Her shoes are strapped combat boots with her symbol on both of them on the sides. The boots have retractable platforms that help give her height in shows as well as give a little boost to her jump when in battle and combined with her semblance (similar to moon boots, but less spring like and more of a sturdy jump). Her top is a sweater that has the left sleeve completely torn off until her left shoulder. The other sleeve on her right is oversized and covers the pick she's uses during her strumming (people know she uses it, but it's more of a habit than anything). The sweater itself is a simple purple and black horizontal sweater that has her periwinkle logo on the front. As a show goes on, she has lights on the inside that charge up and light the logo so it looks like she's "gaining power" from the audience and her music. Her hair is a mess of color with many strands of periwinkle (being the primary color), magenta, and black randomly mixed around her hair. The hair style itself is a pixie cut with long bangs that go towards the right side of her face. Her hair on the back of her head is a little longer than some cuts, however as it starts growing down towards her back. It's pretty unkept in a bed head fashion. Lastly, she keeps a necklace made only of string with a purple pick at the end given to her by her mother after her first concert.
Personality: Energetic, naive, and headstrong are the top 3 words to describe Perri. She's a naturally gifted musician that has allowed her to show off to the world. The reception to her music is well received and adds onto her mindset that she can do anything and everything. She will dive into any project and put 110% effort into it. However, she is slow to realize she can't pick up some skills as fast as others, thus, causing her to slow her progress significantly in certain aspects of her life and training. When she does get the hang of a skill, she masters it well and puts it to use whenever she can. Her judgement in what she can or can't do has lead her to some situations where she may have bitten off more than she can chew, but she'll never back down from it. She prefers to charge headlong into battle and wildly swings with vigor in her battle axe form. While her bow form has great usage for recon, she is less for it as she doesn't get to be a primary attacker. She tries to find new uses with her semblance and weapon, often finding interesting combinations that are further amplified with the options her teammates give her. Perri is very self confident and likes to show off both in battle and on stage, which causes her to be spontaneous and make the loudest noise possible.
Aura: Perri's aura color fluctuates based off of her health status. It's a bright blue when she's in top form, but grows darker as she grows injured and/or feels ill. Her aura level is one of a wild striker. She focuses her aura on attacking not only for damage, but for crowd control so no enemies can crowd around and overwhelm her.
Weapon: Her weapon is named the Siren's Ballad with three forms, two which are weapons and one as a double necked axe guitar. Form 1-The Siren. Perri's primary instrument of choice is her custom made dual neck guitar. She rocks out with it at her concerts for personal enjoyment and to play for a crowd. Although it is in electric guitar, she never needs to plug it in with amplifiers as she uses her semblance of sound wave amplification to be as loud or soft as she wants. While not actually a part of the guitar, she does play with a pick as part of her play style. The pick has a slot it goes in at the middle of the higher neck of her guitar. When it is rotated in the slot, the weapon changes form. The design of the guitar has two necks, each end of the neck is a sharp end that sticks out to be used when in axe mode. The base of the guitar has sharp rounded edges that seem like they were sharpened. The base has her symbol on it with a black background behind it. Form 2-The Ballad. When she's out of the frying pan and into the fire, Perri's axe guitar becomes an actual battle axe. The pick rotates downward and combines the two necks of the guitar. The guitar then "folds" down the middle into a symmetrical single blade axe head where the base is with the combined necks as a handle. The neck ends' sharp parts are used to stab enemies that get too close but when no room is available to swing. The symbol on the base also lights up as the axe is swung, monitoring her semblance's buildup within the axe (more in semblance and fighting style sections). Form 3-Siren's Cry. When the pick is rotated upward, the weapon shifts into a bow and arrow mode. The guitar splits in half and magnetically connect again as the sharp ends of the necks combine to form the string of the bow. The bases of the guitar then act as the limbs of the bow and attach by their ends. The pick is placed where the arrows would be drawn from if an arrow were there. The arrows are formed when the strings of the necks are strummed and end at the pick. When her fingers reach the pick, the pick acts as the back part of the arrow. The rest of the arrow is formed using her semblance as shaped sound arrows that come from the sound waves of the strumming the strings. When shot and landed, the sound waves spread out at a frequency people can't hear but Perri. The sound reaches out and provides (to a limited range) an echolocation of the surrounding areas. The concentrated effort of using her semblance this way allows only 7 arrows before needing to take a break (this can grow as Perri trains more).
Dust: Perri uses no dust attacks, weapons, or armor. No dust is used at all.
Semblance: Perri's Semblance is centered around the utilization and control of sound waves. Perri can control sound waves to amplify attacks, increase/decrease her own volume, and as a means of echolocation. As a sound manipulator, Perri can make herself and anything she uses louder and softer in volume, but cannot do that for other people's volume. This allows her to be as quiet (like footsteps) or as loud (like wailing on a guitar) as she wants. When in axe form, the Siren's Ballad is swung wildly not due to lack of skill, but to create sound waves that are captured within the axe. When the attacks land, the sound waves are released and amplify the blow from the axe, causing more push from the blow and even cracking weapons and armor of the buildup is immense. The bow and arrow form utilizes strumming from the neck of the guitar and major control of her semblance to create echolocation arrows that ping where they hit similar to a submarine's sonar.
Fighting Style: Perri's only real attack form is the Axe. She utilizes a combination of wild and quick swings. While it seems untrained, it actually is used to build up power in her axe early on. She can also fight formally with the axe in a more controlled and precise way. She believes in take downs and heavy damaging moves over all as she wants to obtain any and all focus of the enemy. The axe can be thrown, but needs to be retrieved by hand. The perk of doing that helps build sound into her axe and causing massive damage if the attack hits the target.
Affiliation: Team PRPL and General Ironwood. Beacon academy (undercover). Team PRPL is the ragtag group of people that Perri is apart of in her adventures around Vale. As she toured around the kingdoms, she arrived around the same time as General Ironwood in season 2. White Fang attacks were increasing, eventually arriving at her concert to terrorize music goers. Along with Platinum, Regalia, and Lapis, the three saved the audience and became friends for it. This act along with their natural chemistry together attracted Ironwood. He wanted more eyes on his side within Beacon and Vale as security was becoming an increasing concern of his. He asked the four to become a team, and in exchange, would give them resources and training via Beacon academy. They would take on leads he would give them at night to stop white fang attacks and investigate within Vale while they would be students under aliases during the day.
Background:Her background is fortunate as she grew up from a father who was an artist from Atlus and her mother was a huntress from Vale. After her mother, Violetta, saved her father, Lavan (like lavender) from a wild grim attack, her father was instantly head over heels. He tried winning her over with various pieces of art he made dedicated to her, but to no avail. His final try involved him serenading her into a secret spot by the edge of a forest that revealed a scenic view of the ruins found within Vale. The haunting tune made her feel at home with him along with the world around her and could see a life she described as harmonious like his song with the ruins. They went out and eventually married years later, eventually giving birth to Perri. Perri's childhood was different as she was fickle with her small family. Although they were tight and financially managed, Perri was hard to get along with and would always try to best anyone around her. She eventually was home schooled where she had a much better time learning from her parents and the stories they told of their lives. Although he was from Atlus, Lavan was no stranger to knowing what hard work and rejection was (the talk also always consisted of the joke "you should ask your mom," followed by a scoff from Violetta) as well as never giving up. He would talk of his wanderings around Atlus and trying to make so he can follow his dreams. Violetta would also tell Perri stories of the world huntress live and deal as guardians of people and Faunus along with many tales of heroism and close calls. Perri particularly loved a story that her mother told of the daring rescue she did that involved using a wild angry (normal) goose to disrupt a gang that was eventually chased out be the combined efforts of the goose and Violetta. These inspired Perri to find her own dream of being who she wanted to be, which eventually led to her duel role of a musician and a huntress. She learned music from her father, and trained with her mother, eventually developing both in tandem with her semblance of sound that was discovered as she grew. When she turned 16, she turned down the idea of going to any kind of schooling and instead wanted to travel around and learn from experience instead of a classroom. While initially doubtful, both parents (after much debate) eventually conceded and allowed Perri her wish. The year before going to Beacon, she traveled around the kingdoms on a one girl band tour to be known and break out as a rock star. The public were amazed by her young talent and captivated many, eventually getting a following. As her travels went on, she would help whenever she can and get into many skirmishes and gain experience from them, although she wasn't ready for bigger issues that would require a team. She, along with the rest of her future teammates gained the attention of general Ironwood after the four of them managed to stop an attack during a concert she had in Vale when the White Fang opened fire and tried to attack innocent people. Perri, along with Platinum, Regalia, and Lapis, would defeat the White Fang right as Ironwood would come and assist. Seeing the four had potential and also noticing they were not in any sort of schooling, decided to offer them a chance at helping him as a special task force to help him have more reach in missions that he couldn't have others take on as his position as general made him responsible for Atlus students and the new robots that would be revealed soon. He would offer them schooling at Beacon (after talking with Ozpin) as payment to help hone their skills and keep the guise as students in case something came up within the school while reporting to Ironwood. They became team PRPL and it was lead by Platinum.
Canon: The canon of Perri and Team PRPL can be legitimized as they were not main cast characters. Beacon has many students, and with the confusion of the coming of Ironwood along with preparing for the festival, they are no real issues with their addition. They were among many students who held off and survived the fall of Beacon, but in terms of meeting up with main cast members in season 4, they would likely not meet too many. They could be centered around Atlus and the Schnee aspect of the story to help Ironwood in his doings or even serve as bodyguards/trainees. Their stories take place in the background of season 2 and 3.
Relationships: The character in the RWBY-verse wth the most interaction with Perri and Team PRPL is General Ironwood. He helps brief the team and tells them of occurrences and provides resources and housing outside of Beacon to help them train and grow. They may know of the other teams in passing, but don't always interact with them. They've also heard some conversations between Ironwood and Ozpin.
Origins and Influences: The basis of Periwinkle came from wanting a rockstar that was also a huntress. A lot of her initial design process came from Roxie, a poison type gym leader from Pokemon Black and White 2. Perri's main focus with her character was to be loud and grab attention in everything, and the best way of doing that was grabbing attention as a huge rockstar. I wanted her to be self-sufficient, but still learning. Her semblance had influences from Quake/Daisy/Skye of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Marvel as well some sound ninja from Naruto. The Siren's Ballad (Almost called the Crucial Taunt based off of the band of the same name) had inspiration of ideas of metal and rock genre guitar designs, although the double neck was essential in being attention grabbing and allowing the weapon to transform more smoothly. The idea of being an axe guitar and a battle axe came from designs I've seen personally as well as Marceline's axe guitar from Adventure Time. The movement to a bow and arrow came from the utilization of strings in a guitar also being unexpected as a weapon. Her sound arrows came from the basis of a sonar arrow from Hanzo of Overwatch, but being made completely of sound was more my design as o didn't want her having to carry arrows around as it isn't her primary usage of her weapon. She had to be punk rock (a genre I've heard and enjoyed) and tried my best to make that part of her theme as trying to be the center of attention.
[Optional Information]
Love Interest: Perri is more in love with life than a single person. She loves the interactions she's made with people and grows as she gets to know her team over time. She is sought after initially, but her personality can be overwhelming and can spook off people who thought they would be into her. If she did have a love interest, she'd be in love more with their spirit than their appearance, and would dive headlong into that person.
Fan fictions: She's been featured in no fan fiction, but I may write some in time along with the rest of team PRPL Theme Songs: She has no actual associations with any songs both for inspiration and relationship to her character, but she could totally wail Red Like Roses Part 2
Likes and/or Dislikes:
Likes include Music, loud scenes and being around people, and any kind of BBQ, ribs especially as BBQ sauce is the closest she gets to eating the remains of her enemies (a joke, she's not a cannibal).
Dislikes include being still, having to be confined, and being proper. She hates being restricted to what she wants to do, and will be very vocal about her issues with a scenario. Very few can calm her down, even fewer win arguments against her.
Quotes: None. She prefers to let her guitar to do the talking. Although she has been known to strum and ignore others that try to tell her something she doesn't want to do or want to hear.
Extras: Perri prefers her Perri over her full name. She always wears her necklace and would do anything for it, but hates other trinkets. She is the most heavily disguised when in Beacon as she does have a reputation as the rockstar. She does both solo shows and acts with a band, but drastically cuts down on these shows after joining PRPL.
