I'll normally hold them for a week, check if you still want him held, and hold longer if needed. I'm pretty lenient when it comes to holds.
Obviously if multiple months go by, I might just reopen it anyway, but for the most part there is plenty of time to get any needed funds or decide if it's no longer wanted.
