So it's been a while! I'm overjoyed to have gotten this done, started it back in....November OTL Now that Supanova is over, I feel liberated in a way. I hope I can draw much more now!!With this, I wanted to experiment outside of my usual style by using soft, desaturated and mostly warm colours. I also wanted to practice painting backgrounds because I never do orz

What happened in the drama CD between Lion and Marian :3 ???
Wait, I wonder... is Marian older than Leon... or are they around the same age?
Some sources say that Lion sees her as a mother figure, but some sources (like Tales of Fandom GAIDEN) say that Lion sees her more in a romantic way - after Zelos says 'who has the cutest girlfriend', Judas says 'Marian is the best!'

I believe Marian is older by around three years? It's been a while since I looked into it. I get the feeling that in game time Leon's 16 and she's 19.
Ahhh I love gaiden~ xD I think what it comes down to is that their relationship evolved. Marian joined Hugo's household when Leon was 8-12 and she acted as his nanny for that time so the motherly bond formed then, but as Leon grew older his view of her changed to romantic. Marian is also said to resemble Leon's mother Kris.
The drama CD focuses on Leon's life in general- from his child years when he received Chaltier, his acceptance into the knights, Hugo's steady descent into madness, killing his mentor to save Marian and then finally into the game itself. There's an ongoing theme of dancing- he takes dance lessons and practices in secret with Marian, because if Hugo found out, yeah...it was during the major dancing scene that Leon almost confesses his love for her, which I think is where a lot of the romantic aspect comes from. And that was the inspiration for this! (:
