I think Zevon himself was both inspiring and disturbing. I think it is unusual to find someone in the rock world who had such a deep and broad set of musical influences, and was so capable with language. I also admire his need to keep hammering at things until he thought they were right, and his dedication to his fans. But the substance dependency/OCD/gun obsession is just frightening.
