Thanks!
I used a video for reference, but the rats in it were never really running, it looked more like short leaps and I couldn't see them from the side. So that could be the reason for the tail looking the way it does since I never really saw them running and I had to more or less imagine it. But thank you for pointing it out! I'll pay attention to it when I see running rats~

The gif image is too large. No website likes large gif images. I learned this the hard way a few years ago. Though back then they couldn't handle them at all, now they can handle them but still don't like them. Gif files aren't like videos that can buffer, each frame has to load as an individual picture before it can be displayed. So the size and quality of the images used makes an enormous difference. Though some websites will automatically convert gif's to a video format most don't especially art sites like this one.
This is very very good though! I couldn't imagine making an animated gif from actual oil paints, especially one that flows so well!

Thanks a lot!
So should I use video files or smaller gif files for future animations? And would I have to manually loop animations like this one if I used something like mp4 or can I make it loop automatically like a gif?

You're welcome.
Honestly what format you use is up to you, use to Gif files used to be much higher quality than video but video has caught up so most people prefer using videos now since they are better supported. As for looping I've seen video loops on the internet and I know some sites have it as an option but it's really out of my league to be honest. I've used html that draws on looping videos before but that was years ago and I don't have the first clue about doing it on deviant art. Usually if you want to use a gif the quality of the image doesn't make a huge difference it's the physical size (HxW) because of the way the web browser loads the images. So just shrinking the images will fix a lot of your issues if you want to keep using gifs. I'd say about half the size of this one should do great. If you take off the borders around the image using an editing software that would size it down quite a bit as well without having to sacrifice the actual image size. As for videos I'm sorry on that end but you're on your own. It's been so many years since I've done anything video related, other than very basic edits, that everything I know is outdated and probably doesn't even apply any more. But I'm sure you can find tutorials and stuff out there if that's what you're interested in though.
PS. The web browser makes a huge difference since that's where most of your issues pop up. I'm using the most updated version of Firefox and the image runs seamlessly on my browser. I could imagine though if someone were using an outdated internet explorer this image probably wouldn't load at all lol.

I tested it on Chrome and on my phone's browser to make sure it runs fine but if I should go even smaller with gif files I'll do that and I guess some experimentation with other file formats won't hurt. The biggest problem I had (and still have) though was getting the thumbnail to work because for some reason absolutely nothing I tried worked there, not even a tiny jpg displays, and I have no clue why.
And are there actually people using an outdated internet explorer? That sounds like an extreme edge case to me but, of course, I could be very wrong.

As for the thumbnail I don't know what to do on that, when I have a thumbnail issue I usually just use a small jpg like you mentioned. I don't see how a gif would influence it because the website treats it as a completely different image I could see why other websites wouldn't like it, but deviant art should be fine with it.
As for the internet explorer thing, you would probably be surprised.
I've met several people who still use a version of explorer from 2006. Oh the horrors...
They usually switch over to Firefox or chrome when I explain what they are actually doing, but yeah, there are too many who honestly don't care what browser they use or how up to date it is, so they use whatever they have and never bother updating it. And since IE updates used to be manual there are some people are using versions even older than that.
But those are few and far between, since edge updates automatically (Still 3 years behind chrome and firefox) and since most computers come preinstalled with either chrome or Firefox these days (Which both started auto updating waaayyy before IE) that shouldn't be anything to worry about as far as audience goes.

Maybe I should've contacted the support, but I guess now it's a bit late to do so.
Okay. A more than a decade old IE. That sounds scary.
