Wandsuna - Mr and Mrs Finch.

It has been SO LONG since I've worked in soft pastels! It was lovely to get back to it. I've had an overwhelming past two months, since I've started a Master in Communications (just finished my first semester) which is why the amount of art I usually upload (like three or four finished pieces a week) has slowed to an utter trickle.

So I decided to return to an old favourite; the Wandsuna series.

Such a fascinating piece - I am in awe! So strange, so moving.
Also your style is extremely gorgeous - soft, but firm, simple, but with focus to the details. Just wonderful

the simbolism of this paint, is very beutiful, i mean the parents are hurt by their sons, you really did something very human usin animals to tell the history, thats great art.

gorgeous colours! lovely shapes! is she weeping because she bore fox-lings?

Ravenari In reply to xia0ting [2012-08-29 05:08:21 +0000 UTC]

Yes, alas, she is weeping because they gave birth to foxlings. The story of Mr. and Mrs. Finch is a sad one.

This drawing is really lovely, the colors are so beautifully blended and vibrant!
For some reason this piece reminds me of the trouble introduced animals can cause to other ecosystems, like the foxes in Australia. The foxes hatching from the eggs, along with their color making it look like they're setting the nest on fire remind me of some kind of hidden methaphor, that they are spreading rapidly while other native species like finches decline.
The wheel in the background reminds me of nature as a whole, and that they're all part of it, native species or not. The newborn foxes don't realize they're harming other ecosystems after all, although that still doesn't help the native species like the finches, which is why they look sad.
That probably didn't make much sense, but that's what this drawing reminds me of.

I LOVE this interpretation; thank you so much for sharing it with me. I also like how clearly it comes through and it does make sense to me. It wasn't my intention, but this is an amazing meaning to generate in the picture and symbolically makes a great deal of sense - especially as the finches depicted are native Australian finches.

Thank you so much.

The first association I had was cuckoos. Nice drawing indeed, very bright and with saturated colors and with a bit sad yet somewhat funny idea behind it. All in all, awesome
