Description As I was working on this ship, it occurred to me how frustrating it is when your ship gets caught in an enemy's tractor beam.  Then I thought of a cool storyline, in which a Star Wars character develops an advanced new kind of defensive energy shield that makes it hard (if not impossible) for a tractor beam to get (and hold) a lock on your ship.  Essentially, it would make your ship "too slippery" to hold onto.  This "Slippery Field" seems like a great idea for smugglers and Rebels.  This seems like such a good idea that I'm wondering if someone has already thought of it before, but I can't recall ever having encountered this concept before.

Do any of you know if such a field exists somewhere in the Star Wars universe?  If so, does it have a "generally accepted" name?

I know that Picard varies the frequency of his ship's shields in order to try to defeat the Borg's shield-draining beam, but that's a little bit different.  It seems like he's trying to defeat the shield-draining more than he is trying to defeat the tractor beam.  Anyway, that is in the world of Star Trek.  I'm trying to determine if there is any precedent for a field that can allow you to slip our of the grasp of a tractor beam in the Star Wars universe.  (If not, that would make a great storyline.)

You could have a story about a scientist or engineer who invents this tech, and tries to get it into the hands of the Rebels (or Resistance) without letting it fall into the hands of the Imperials.  Of course, when the Imperials catch wind of it, they try to capture the scientist.  But then he activates the "slippery field" and manages to get away.  Of course, for added drama, the finicky little device breaks down every now and then, just when you don't want it to, so it doesn't totally upset the balance of power.  If this is actually a new idea, I hereby copyright it here and now!  (Disney can pay me a lot of money for this, if they want to.)
