"Are... Are you quite sure Frisk will be fine on their own...?" Toriel fretted as she and Sans departed from the Skeletwins home. It was quite like the one in Snowdin. When they had first moved in, Papyrus had insisted on buying fake snow and putting it on the roof. Eventually, Sans had caved, and helped him to put it on, to make it feel more like home. It had washed away in the rain, but it was becoming fall, and snow was never far away from the first crunching of brittle leaves under slippered feet.

"nah, they're with Papyrus. besides, Undyne'll be around later. she'll take charge." The short skeleton smiled as he imagined what he'd come home to. Papyrus passed out of the floor, with Frisk half off the couch. He'd have to carry them both to bed. When he fell asleep, Papyrus never woke up easily.

He was so caught up in his daydream that he only noticed Toriel was ready to leave out of the corner of his eyesocket. He tried to catch up, sticking out his hand for her to hold. He'd taken one of Papyrus' spare gloves from when he had hand made his now-permanent costume. This was a lighter periwinkle in color, and just thick enough to prevent the chill of his bones from freezing Toriel's hand. He would've locked arms with her, but he was a little too short for that. He had only put on a small bowtie in his normal apparel in an attempt to look a bit more fancy. It didn't work too well.

Toriel kept casting glances over her shoulder at the house as they continued on. The sun was setting, and a crisp breeze was knocking leaves off of the trees lining the sidewalk. She was obviously worried about Frisk.

Sans wasn't. He didn't know how he felt about Frisk. He knew the truth about them. The first time he saw them, they were nice, and sweet. They didn't hurt a soul. Except for Toriel. They'd killed her and gone on. Every time they came back, another person would die. Eventually, they'd slaughtered everyone...

Including himself. He chose not to dwell on that, for the next time they came through, they befriended everyone, and saved them all. Everyone. Even Flowey was shown Mercy. If Toriel knew, she'd be crushed. Frisk meant the world to her. Anybody could see that. No, he wouldn't spill.

"Toriel, where ya wanna go? Papyrus was saying something about an italian restaurant a ways down from here. knowing him, it's probably clean and grease-free." Ppayrus had once brought up the matter of how Grillby's didn't burst into flames from the grease and Grillby being so... Hot-headed. Sans honestly didn't know, and didn't care to think about it.

The goat-woman smiled at him. "That sounds wonderful, Sansy. But maybe we could go for French? I heard they make something called escargot there, and it's made of snails!"

Sans grinned. "are you sure you don't want escarGOAT?" It was cringeworthy is every way possible, but as per usual, Toriel cracked up loudly, laughing as hard as she always did. Sans managed a few chuckles out of his own joke, mostly at her reaction. It was always a good feeling to make others laugh. It was what he did best.

The rest of the walk through the evening was filled with jokes of a similar caliber. Goat and skeleton puns. Perfect date material between monsters.

:After the dinner:

"Sans, Papyrus might be upset you didn't bring him any spaghetti back home." Toriel commented on the walk home. Night had fallen by now, everything bathed in a pale gray light, illuminating her features as she talked animatedly. She had noticed Sans had fallen silent, and that never bode well. "... Sans? Is everything alright, dear?"

"Tori... did you see the way they were STARING? like we were freaks? like we didn't belong there?" Ever since the monsters had risen from the Uunderground, the humans weren't hostile, per say, but they were none too shy about voicing their opinions on the monsters filling up the city and moving in. It had taken Sans forever to find a job that would take him and pay him well enough to keep up with the bills on the house and groceries, even if all it was was pasta, tomato sauce, and sometimes ground beef.

Toriel sighed, taking his hand, even though it was ungloved and chilly. "It will get better Sans. I know it will. It can only go up from here." They were nearing the house now, so she bent down only sightly. "Are you listening, Sans?" She tried to lower her lips to kiss his forehead, be her nose collided with his skull a little painfully.

"heh, sorry Tori, but it doesn't really work that way. i don't have lips." His right eye sparked with the magic he was so well known for, patting her on the head softly. "but, i appreciate the attempt.

They walked on towards the house and parted ways, Frisk having made arrangements to stay the night at the Skeletwins house. He leaned against the door for the meanwhile, watching her leave with a contented look. To think it all started with bad puns through a door. Maybe... Maybe the surface wasn't so bad after all... He'd protect her from the truth about Frisk He promised himself, and he never liked promises.

"SANS! I CAN HEAR YOU TROMPING AROUND OUT THERE! GET INSIDE BEFORE YOU CATCH A COLD!" Papyrus' voice rang out through the door.

"can't catch a cold bro, we're skeletons, remember?" Good old Papyrus, always his lifelife to reality.
