Description Numero uno! The time-slice-effect captured in a picture. I had a lot of fun doing those pictures. Hm, I think I should continue with this series.

I used a HP ScanJet 5200C in 75 DPI prescan-mode. Then slowly rotated my head synchronously with the scan unit. added tint, a frame and type with ps 7.

*I wonder if there's a way to do this with a video camera or in post production ?? Does anybody know something?

Haha, thanks. It's from a time when a selfie simply was a self or self portrait.

inspiration
Though I could get the movingness to work for me, do I move with the light thingie? Or something else, I guess there really isn't much else it could be.
My scanner's at a very unhelpful place, all up there next to the monitor.
Just realised, this deviation was submitted more that three years ago!

rawimage In reply to yuppy64 [2006-04-11 08:09:10 +0000 UTC]

yes, with the scan-unit or light thingie . just do a preview scan so the light thingie is moving faster...
Oh yeah these were the first things I submitted to dA. and I was getting no attention at all
I'm glad they (or at least scanned again I) do now!

if you haven't already, you might want to take a look at these

this is amazing, of course! however, i don't really understand how there's so much in focus. i thought scanners had a poor depth of field capacity. i've never actually tried this, though, so i might very well be misunderstanding the whole thing. anyway, excellent piece!

Thank you. no, I think you get it right. It strongly depends on the scanner. some have a quiet amazing DOF, others don't.

there's no tutorial, but if you read my deviation-comment carefully you'll know how to do it. I didn't use a camera but a scanner

Wow, this is just one of those shots that hits viscerally and doesn't let you have time to process the words. Or maybe I'm not so good with words... it's possible.

Several words come to mind that others have used - clever, stunning, I'd add very creepy and definitely surreal. Great job.

~yuppy64 Here, your deviation was featured a little while back in the *Deviant-Underground journal, it's been selected for the top five weekly journal, and if voted most popular in the weekly poll, will be put into the DU gallery with comments disabled and a link back here.
Best of luck.

Hey Deviant...
You're awesome, and it's been recognized, I'm *electricnats , and I'm part of a project over at *Deviant-Underground to promote underappreciated artists, and share their art with our watchers, each day three pieces are featured in the group journal. From there deviants are asked to participate by posting the featured thumbs in their own journals to promote both the artists and the project. Then on each Saturday the 5 favorite deviations from that week are posted again in a weekly journal entry and those deviations are put into a poll. By the next week, the deviation with the most votes is submitted to the clubs gallery with comments disabled and a link to the original. So eventually, when the project gets bigger, then that should have a huge effect on the featured deviations comments and favorites.

Anyway, today your piece was featured here
Enjoy the little bit of attention.

what do you mean by you know how to code it ???? are you serious??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lithia In reply to rawimage [2005-05-17 08:18:31 +0000 UTC]

yup, my thesis is on computer vision, so I know how to code it. one of my school projects this semester was automatic panorama generation from several images, pretty close subject. When I have time (I have to work on my thesis now) I'll try doing this from video frames, which should or could look like this one I hope.
