If we're talking in terms of pure gameplay, then no, that's not how the Spirits work.Β But if we're talking narratively, that's exactly how they work.Β The enemy fighters are designed to mimic actions based on the personality of the Spirit possessing them.Β Like the Direct showed, whoever is possessed by Owain spends most of their time taunting because showboating is what Owain does best, and Otacon is a meek scientist with no combat experience whatsoever, hence why he runs away from you instead of fight.
