Calming Forest, an artwork I dedicate to my father. For 9 hours I have been working on this piece to manage to get it done in time for his birthday. (Look further down for credits. The original image is huge; this is the resized version. Heavily inspired by the very talented cosmosue .)
I feel that it's important to write down why this photo manipulation was made. If you don't feel like reading a wall of text, skip it. But I have poured my heart and soul into the manip and the reason why it was made.
My father has been suffering from a heart condition for quite some time. He was told last year that November 2009 would be his final month that he would be with his family. He used to be a strong man, a strong man who had a healthy amount of pride and who always put his family first, no matter what.
Things had to change. Thanks to the help of his loving wife, my beautiful mother that I consider is an angel, he began meditating and today, July 25th 2010, my father is still alive. His heart is too old for his body, but he is trying to fight the bad condition. Every day he goes to the hospital, sometimes twice a day, to get a shot in his chest. Everytime he goes, his family aren't sure that he'll come back home again. Each time he goes to the hospital, I say goodbye and pray that it's not my last words to him.
I write this with tears in my eyes. Not only did I make this manip for his birthday in August, but I made it for when he meditates. For his birthday I have planned on spending the little bit of money I have in my savings (I'm currently an unemployed social worker) to make a print out of this photo manipulation, frame it in and give it to him so that he can hang it on his wall and whenever he feels worried, sad or happy, he can look at this magical forest and think of the beautiful things in life.

Some of the elements were painted by me, such as a few waterdrops and sparkle/glow effects. I repainted the cat in the front of the picture but I had to cover her up with black at the end. On my monitor(s) this manip looks alright - let me know if I have missed to erase some parts that you might see on yours!

This picture has touched me. It's very beautiful indeed, and has been created for a beautiful cause. I understand very much what you're going through, because months ago, I lost my mother to liver failure, and all of us are still trying to deal with the loss. Given your father's condition, it's all very slow, so you still can spend as much time as you can with him, and when the time comes, you'll be more ready to let him go... Unfortunately for my mother, it all happened so fast that the last I could get was a hug weeks before she went so downhill...
...I still miss her very much. She was a good hearted woman who very much appreciated fine art, and even painted in her time every now and then. I still hold some of her artwork, as do other family members, and while my mother never thought she was good, we all knew that she was very much a fine artist, as well as a musician. If my mother were alive, I would call her over to show this lovely piece of artwork...

It is always hard to lose someone precious and it takes a lot of time before one can get past the big wall of sorrow and try to look over the wall in order to get through a very difficult and heart-breaking situation.
My father's doctor told us that november (2011) would be my father's last month with us. He is still here, as if a miracle happened, and I try to spend as much time with him as possible, because his condition is not well. None of us know what is going on, but we try to keep a positive attitude and help eachother out as much as possible. Times are rough, especially when one does not know what is going to happen the next day.
If I could, I would give you a hug, because I know what you are going through (I have lost some individuals that were very close to me). I feel that I cannot fully express myself in English. However, I want you to know that you are not alone and if you ever need someone to talk to, I am here for you, in good and bad times.
Your mother sounds like she was an amazing person with a heart of gold, and no matter what happens in life, she will always watch over you and send you her smiles, love and energy from above.
Thank you once again - stay strong and I hope that you can smile again one day, because I have a feeling that is what your mother wants you to do when the time is right. Hugs to you from me and I will be sending you my positive thoughts and energies.

It's a beautiful picture, and the light and the moss on the trees are probably my favourite parts!

I took a look at all stock images and I still can't understand how could you do such beautiful art with those image that are not compatible at all. You put lot effort and I admire you and I'm sure that your dad will love it and will feel calm and peaceful every time he'll look at it. I know I would. Really beautiful photomanip

Thank you so much for the warm, kind words and for your feedback! I tried my best to create the perfect piece for my father, an artwork that will make his mind relax. It's really hard since both my parents are artists, but I do hope that he will like the artwork.
The lighting was the hardest part of the manip, and it took about two hours to get it to look alright. This is my first really 'serious' and advanced manip I've made so I probably made a lot of mistakes, but with my PC dying on me yesterday I had to do my best on my boyfriend's PC and go from there.
