This one is for all the people that have given us their support and input in the sensitive matter that I have insticated. And I mean to ALL who have given their input.
We have read all messages and cannot begin to describe the feelings we got when we saw all the incredible support and reactions to our work.
Removing the deviations was, to the best of our judgement, the best option.
I will explain why. I am currently reading "history of the modern world" by Palmer e.o. To be blunt, our history is a long, sad and messy one. Wherever Europeans went (Europeans of all kinds of color I might add), indiginious cultures of the "new world" were butcherd and indoctrinated.
Racial issues still exist within our world because our modern world was founded by and within racial issues. (If anything, the reactions to me doing a make-up job on my face is a clear example of that).
I have no desire to continue treading down a path, that in anyway can be traced back by anyone, to that long, sad and messy history.
That by itself, I must say as I am believed to have a right to an opinion, is imo part of the problem. As long as people will trace back something as stupid, useless and harmless as cosplay to the horrors of the Spanish inquisition, Vasco de Gama, the East-Indian Trading Company... slavery and discrimination in general (my God, what a comparison)... The issue will persist.
We are not out there to haress anyone, or to discriminate anyone. And to all whom I might have offended I have allready apologized, but again: I am sorry.
I didn't want to make this personal, but I allready saw someone posting a doubtful message about my apology... and that person "didn't get the thing about my wife" . To you I can only say this: Take your thumb... and sit on it. Might give you a purpose in life. Sorry 'bout that... but any other words I have said or will say don't seem to land anyways, so either read the messages I seriously ment or make do with these.... I don't give a shit really.
NOW FOR THIS DEVIATION:
As far as I can tell... I can't go wrong with this one... Unless my ass isn't the right shape, form, color or smell....
I WILL CHANGE the Connor make-up job, to stop it from being racially insensitive. This is my choice, because I think it is important. This will involve a foundation closer to my own skin color.
Anyways....

Dude, I feel you pain on so many levels. I've been called out for cosplay as light skinned characters even though I'm black. It's really sad when you can't even enjoy your hobby anymore because of some racial BS. There was even a time when I just stopped cosplaying as light skinned characters and just did tanned/black characters. Even then I got called out because some felt like I only cosplayed black characters because I didn't like to cosplay light skinned characters. It's not that i didn't like to, but it was to avoid the hateful racial comments. So it was like a no win situation until I just said f*ck all you haters! I'll cosplay who I want and if you don't like it, you can eat a d*ck lol Our ancestors fought too long and hard to let future generations suffer like they did. It's on a smaller scale today but its still there and alive. There will always be two sides; one that supports you and one that's against you and it's up to use to decided what side to listen too. There's nothing wrong with being detailed even with the skin tone because it just complete the costume. Honestly if other people can't see the amazing work you are doing then they just don't understand you on a professional level. Even with light skinned Korra Cosplays it's the same thing about them being "black faced". I think with cosplaying becoming more mainstream, the closed minded people are coming into it with closed eyes. Sorry for rambling but DO NOT feel bad for your amazing work! and everyone else that don't like it can GTFO!

I am white but my mother and her identical twin sister is the only one in the family for generations that has a slight olive skin tone and i get so annoyed that she could pull of a MK Jade cosplay and I couldn't cos i wouldn't want to offend by playing a epic charter with out the skin colour for it don't want people to get the wrong impression

I think the cosplay you do is amazing. And they're worried about the make-up? Really? You're just trying to look as much like the characters as possible, and I don't see anything wrong with that. Keep up the good work, the ones who are being racially sensitive about your cosplay are just trying to find something to complain about because you did it all so perfectly. Great job, and keep up the good work.

Those people of racial sensitivity are like children. So I like to think. I am of full, various, Native background. I know I may have some other background but I'm complete sure. Your costumes and make-up are just FINE by me. I have no problem with it. I love the details and accuracy and I LOVE the AC franchise. I've been in love with it when I first saw Altair in a gaming magazine, I think in '06-'07.
Bickering children will always be bickering children.
Keep those costumes coming! More and more people will love it!

I'm unconnected from the internet for a few weeks, this amazing individual does an amazing cosplay for AC3, and it somehow blows up into a huge racial issue for some reason. I wish I got to see the original pictures that you posted, I really wish that I did! Having Native in my background I truly don't understand who would've been offended by your amazing work. Even this little picture here has me just.. truly impressed. If it was me I would've left the pictures up, just for the hell of it. Screw the people raising issues, because this is what cosplay is! Portraying characters that we love! Isn't it?
Aside from the disgust from other people staring at your pictures and thinking anything other than; "Damn this is fucking impressive!" I love your photos.

Someone on the AC wiki posted a forum discussion about your pictures. He supports you guys' work all the way, and so do I. Your costumes are amazingly detailed and accurate. I had NO problem with the make-up; I'm Native American and Creole myself, but I actually thought it made you 2 look authentic.
Now, I'd be offended if it were like the cover of a Vogue magazine a few years back where the model was obviously in black face. I didn't sense any ill will on you and your wife's part. If you hadn't used the makeup that you did, then people would have complained about you being too light and trying to change the main protagonists to suit your preferences, when we know that's not the case. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is: there will always be a group of people who are extra-sensitive and just want to troll and start trouble. I'm not one of those people. You did a heck of a lot better job than I could ever dream of when it comes to making cosplay outfits. Keep up the AWESOME work!

I'll be doing a new make-up job,but I will still go for an accurate Connor worthy face. Don't worry... Next time it'll still be cool and no-one ever has te stop shouting at me again.... I hope.... Anyways... I've taken drastic steps for me to prevent hurting anyone. I have however reached the line on that front. I will adjust. But the line has to be drawn here.

Such a wonderful image, and a bit of a 'screw you' to those fools saying you were being racially insensitive, which I do so enjoy. Hopefully you have kept originals of the photos saved to a data stick or drive where you can look at them for your own pleasure. Because, really, they were all awesome and showcased the costumes and characters of both Aveline and Connor extremely well.

It sucks that while our history is stained in the blood of conqured lands, this is the modern world, 2012, everything isn't...well..."Black and White" there are grey areas (in my opinion) I don't condone any type of Racism or Sexims or any type of discrimination.
Some groups of people have the mentality that "It was illigal back then, thats why it's wrong"
My reply is "So was Homosexuality, but look at the modern world now"
My view may be seen as ignorant, and "Part of the problem" (I put my case across on tumblr and hoo boy did i get loads of hate) But people of these groups need to realise about intent.
It sucks you and your wife took so much hate, but to do this, and the "Unless my Ass..." comment, Genious, i look forward to seeing more deviations of you and your wife

I feel credit should be given when credit is due. Your wonderful caption says it all ' we move on'. I think you have handled this situation with a maturity and tolerance well beyond your years (I can say that because I'm older than you!) A lot of individuals should follow your example of tolerance. It's not the easy road by any means.

Excellent photo, though I had hoped you would repost the one's you took down. Still, I understand the pressure of trying to avoid such confrontations from people. It's very frustrating to deal with and more importantly to even think that you're offending someone unknowingly. All I can say is the best thing for you and others to do is move on. There will be other cosplays and more photos of your Connor and Aveline. Let's not take away from those pleasant thoughts

Here here! Good on you, Rick. You do such a fantastic job of depicting a beloved character, as does your wife and if people can't see your dedication to that then they can go shove it. I will never understand how honouring a character in this way is seen as derogatory or insensitive. Anyway, love you job as always and this is a great photo! I still love your Connor, and your wife's Aveline. Keep up the great work
