i think the 'dark eons' of the universe are really interesting.. the period in between the formation of atoms and the re-ionization when the first population III stars formed. back then the universe was supposedly a completely opaque soup of homogeneous hydrogen for some odd billions of years.
now we just need to figure out the causality of such an energetic, universe-birthing explosion. it sure violates the laws of thermodynamics obscenely. unless it was preceded by a big crunch from an earlier universe.. but i suppose we'll probably need a working grand unified theory and some much shinier telescopes to decipher that.
