Description Do I need your approval?
Do I care what people think?
Is affirmation my new idol?

I look inside,
But it's like I'm blind,
I can't see a thing.
I have nothing to offer,
My voice rings hollow,
My imagination desiccated.

Shall I take pen to paper?
Shall I draw you a picture?
No ink will flow.

I look inside,
But haze abounds.
Where is my worth?
I do my job,
Pay my way,
Crawl toward my six-foot cradle.

Would you like a song?
A melodious composition to hear?
My hunger catches in my throat.

I look inside,
And only see darkness.
Where has my spirit gone?
The past recedes,
The future comes heavy,
My eyes cannot see now.

Some music for you?
Shall I pluck out a tune?
My fingers seize up in pain.

I look inside,
A light in an empty room,
The bulb is not even mine.

It was very powerful, you had a set pattern from what I can see and it worked well. The third lines on the 1st and 2nd stanzas don't seem to fit the pattern of question/not but it doesn't take away anything.

I especially liked:

"Would you like a song?
A melodious composition to hear?
My hunger catches in my throat."

Wow, that's powerful. So many times in life we think that people have to give us their approval in everything we do, what we wear, say, think. We can't just be what we want to be, and what we like. That's unfortunate.
