"I don't turn ponies into stone!" Remembering his little jibe at Celestia, Discord cackled to himself. Generosity had reached his little trap. Oh, when she used her gem-finding magic to crack open that giant geode and find the diamond golem he'd placed inside, she would give up her friends for her selfish desires. Of course, she'd have to get her horn back first, but he was sure Loyalty would abandon her friends, and the game could continue to Round Two.
Somehow, she never did. He made sane ponies insane, and made insane ponies sane. He made the flower-seller allergic to the object of her talent. He even left the baker's wife two very special buns in the oven, a surprise for the formerly barren couple. But he kept listening for a shriek of sheer lust from Generosity, wondering when she'd activate her spell.
Perhaps the illusion was too good, he thought as he sat on his throne. Perhaps she was actually satisfied with the shell, and would never investigate further. Perhaps his little trick would never bear fruit.
Much later, they wheeled his statue out of Town Square (which was circular, a little bit of linguistic chaos he'd sown during his previous reign). As they pulled him to the train station, he noticed a certain boulder in a field. If he could have chuckled, he would have. At least he'd have the satisfaction of knowing Generosity would never find his little present.

This reminds me of the Greek myth of Pygmalion, who had fallen in love with one of his sculptures as it was his image of the perfect woman. He prayed to Aphrodite to grant him union with the statue, and she answered his prays by bringing the statue to life.
