i am loving the details with the oak leaves! really well done and the background really suits it too just a little heads up though, where the arm comes over the thigh? you should be able to see the arm going from the hand and slowly going behind the thigh ^_^

if you ever get stuck with a pose, get a friend to strike that pose and you can study it up close ^_^

Uh... yeah, the friends I got are all of the lonewolf type and/or gamers. No dice
No big mirrors either, best I got is a glass door, lol! On top of that, I rather not a guy strike a pose for a female model, that would feel akward in so many ways, and I prefer drawing when alone most of the time to top it all of!
Although, it would be fun forcing them to stand in weird poses just for the hell of it... The whole like 2 left living around here still, bleah >:

LOL bribe them with a game of halo! all my friends are the same too, but they still do it when i ask nicely and offer to set up a LAN XD

hum, well, get them to strike the pose and then take a pic? then you can go home a draw all alone to your hearts content LOL

They know I'm game anyway, always and forever.
Besides, I never consider a pose befor I get started, so I wouldn't know what to ask for, etc etc insert other excuses here.

LOL so start your pose, get the basics down pat, and then get the reference photos ^_^

So I keep hearing, and I do respect that, but I personaly prefer drawing from imagination, it's just more fun for me that way. This might mean I will never be able to make money out of my hobbie, but that's okay with me!
Right now I try to walk a balance of doing both though, it's hard to imagine things without any inspiration after all!

...
And uh, "best artists" is something that I think is in the eyes of the beholder, I value thought behind and creativity way higher then technique + personal taste. No offense intended. I just never let anyone tell me what to like and take it for fact, kinda like they tried to force "Anders Zorn" into our minds in high school (possibly the most famous swedish painter, insanely good at painting water and a total perv).

*bored in class*

celeste84 In reply to RealityGlitch [2011-02-09 13:46:17 +0000 UTC]

LOL sorry, i should have said "technically best artists", since that's what i was referring to ^_^;; and funnily enough never heard of anders zorn, i studied more of the impressionists and artists like picasso and frieda kahlo at school had a pretty cool teacher, she let us pick which artists we wated to study.

ahhhh i understand where you're coming from completely! I used to be the exact same especially since i came from a creative ceramics background initially, but after life drawing classes and trying to learn how human anatomy works properly i've moved more into a blend of imagination and technical skill - i'm hoping that one day my technical skills will be good enough to draw anything i can imagine HOW i imagine it ^_^ funny how experiences can change your values eh? i sit back and look at art from when i first started drawing, and i think about how differently i'd do it now.

Yeah, I think I understand your point of view, I hated the whole idea of studying anatomy at first, it was nothing but frustration for me! But now I keep looking at how things shape and not to uncommon getting all kinds of weird cramps in my hand cause of unnatural movements. I can't say I have an artistic background though, I just liked to draw for as long as I can remember but I was never particularly good at it... So I tended to draw allot of comic relief characters and abstract patterns all over my schoolbooks.

i took art the entire time i did high school, but i mostly did ceramics, didn't draw anything except dragons or art assignments until after i graduated ^_^;; makes me wish i'd started sooner!

We are more or less forced to study art over here, not sure from what age but I have done it since my first days in school to my last years, with only the 2 last as optional. I did get the the highest possible grades in the last years though and that's probably about the time I started to realized that it was my favorite subject. And by school I mean the years all of us have to go to school, not current stuff.

Lots of stuff happend since then, worked some etc, and now I'm here thinking I have found a goal in life or something O.o
I sure am hungry though... Wonder if I can sneak away a bit early.

ahhh yeah over here we do "art" in yr 7&8 for 1 term each year (you do other things like woodwork, computers, design&tech, cooking, home ec....etc for the other terms), then in 8-12 you can pick art as a subject for the entire year

RealityGlitch In reply to celeste84 [2011-02-10 08:32:45 +0000 UTC]

School cooking was an... "experience". I ow my father for learning me the basics of cooking, don't think I would be doing very well today without that. It's something similar over here otherwise, no design and tech, and after trying both textile works (not sure if it's called that) and woodwork, we get to chose one of them, can't remember if we got to chose again every year after that, on top of that we have music class (worthless). Most of these things starts around third grade and ends with the ninth grade, then it's of to high school. As far as I know everyone have art for the first year in high school here, and then the last 2 is free choice betwen some different stuff like acting etc.

LOL yeah i took music for all 6 years ^_^ majored in piano composition from the medieval and renaissance periods :3 i love music as much as art, and those were my two relaxation subjects!

I wish I would have learned an instrument, you lucky person you >:
All we did was make horrible noice on whatever crap they handed us, read up on some old guys and why they where great, do some tests and thats about it. Oh yea, and we sang with our beutifull puberty voices, the horror.
So thats like 500-1700? The later I can get as I think the big composer lived around then ... I think, XD

hahahaha actually, that's directly from my teachers too! basically, once everyone had signed off on their scales and techniques for the lesson, we could do whatever we felt like (in terms of playing music)

Sweeeeeeeeeeet!

I do like the colouring. You must've mixed a ton of different colours, right? Makes it seem a bit more "real", imo.

Also... is that some kind of brush used for the leaves?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RealityGlitch In reply to LazyLionus [2011-02-08 17:40:55 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you noticed, acctualy it's not so much mixing as I read up on some very basic color theory, fascinating stuff to work without the use of blacks and whites to accomplish cold shadows and warm lights. Do check it out if you are ever in a painting mood!

That would indeed be some kind of brush, Fox-orian has this awesome replacement brush pack for photoshop, that guy inspires me allot [link]

LazyLionus In reply to RealityGlitch [2011-02-08 17:58:41 +0000 UTC]

It really is noticeable, and I do like the result. I'm more of a black/white kind of person, but stuff like this still fascinates me... One of our "countrymen" is really good at making stuff look realistic with colouring, and I read one of her tutorials, which was awesome. (lot of subtle colours etc.) I think she's called Linda Berglund... has her own homepage.

Sweet. Much better than the original ones...
