What medium did you use for these two pieces? I really like the way the strokes look on the prelim lines.
The shapes in Lleyendecker's shadows always puzzle me. Each shape is so crisp and clean. On top of that he has subtle chiaroscuro going on in the overall object that just 'pops' it out. I'm eager to know what observations you've come up with in your studies!

Thanks for enlarging the image! By the looks of it Lleyendecker's fabric seems to be the easier subject to mimic and understand because of those crisp silhouettes you mentioned. Well I gave it a go and tried to study the man's style. Let me know what you think: [link]

Love the sketch, but from the image I'd have no idea this style was modeled after JC. Too much blending.

I agree, I don't have his brush work down yet. More reason to keep trying ^_^. I think the next one will be a replica of one of his actual works.
