Yeah, there's no real narrative here. Just wanted to kill off this trope. The giant frog/toad that swallows girls is next. Also, there are still a lot of giant reptiles out there....
In Rudyard Kipling’s novels Kaa is actually a good character who looked out for Mowgli and cared deeply for him. It was Walt Disney who decided that Kaa should be an antagonist in the the animated film. “Nobody would think of a snake as trustworthy,” he said.
