Your concept is well thought and executed.  You've done a marvelous job of capturing the definition in your drawing.  I'm going to point out the obvious, though.  I would suggest not using lined paper in the future for your drawings.

Her position exudes the idea of insecurity and in her form, I can only see one fault: her arm and hand positions.  According to her shoulders and placement of her upper arms, her hands should both be around her waist, but her left hand is on her right shoulder.  I would suggest to keep an eye on that in the future as it really screws with natural anatomy.

You have a wonderful deviation here with a really strong message.  Well done.

I'm not sure what to say. I really like this. I'm guessing this is a collage? Reminds me of the Babadook.

Yea... it is a very common fear for people in general- if you ever have any serious problems, don't forget there are so many people out there who accept you just the way you are, no matter haw many flaws you may have!

I knew a few people who have this. Its a horrible phobia, to always feel like whatever you do, however you look, that none of it is ever good enough.

I'm a new projet-comment member, I was looking at new submissions, and I immediately was appealed to your drawing even if it is a draft. First of all, I'm a lexicographer and I love the idea of illustrating a word or an expression. I think it gives something a definition can't provide: a more personal interpretation of the concept, a subjective illustration that reflects the way a word means to you. I find your drawing very touching ! The girl, viewed from behind looks so weak and small. If I understand it right, the reflection in the mirror is something bigger than her, maybe even something that frightens her or that she cannot control, or, the distorted idea that she has of her own body : fat and deformed although she is cute and skinny. The idea is very good. One thing I would say in negative, is that you shoud have finished it ! I mean by that that you should drawn a more final version on a better paper. Maybe what she sees in the miror could be also a little bit more explicit, (It was not completely clear to me). I really encourage you to illustrate more words like this one.

Thank you! Your perceptions where spot on- I might consider redrawing this in the future, but I wanted people to be able to see the reflection and not know exactly what it is- but instead percieve their own insicurites. Some people might see a eating disorder, others might see threatening nightmarish figures. Either way, I wanted people to see something. Thank you for the feedback- and welcome to ProjectComment!!!

You are probably right about wanting the reflection to stay fuzzy and opened to interpretation, maybe people will see their own fear.
And it is also ok to post draft. Who has the time to redraw every sketches ?

VenomQuill In reply to RealNation [2016-12-19 14:36:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh okay. Haha. What I was thinking was that women are more likely to suffer from Atelophobia- especially due to social standards. Corsets make women 'look thinner'. So women would wear them all them despite the fact that they hurt, could cause internal organ damage, injure fetuses, or cause breathing problems. There are women who still do wear corsets all the time. /shrug

I think he was trying to say, corsets are cool! And it shows her figure as being slender in contrast to how she sees herself in the mirror.

Aw...man...XD so much proof of him, so many experiences I've had.

my best friend was an atheist, she had depression, wouldn't even eat, but when she became a Christian, she was transformed!

That is wonderful! I'm glad your friend was helped- but for me and many others, there is a respectful lack of faith in things like god or religion. Don't get me wrong, this is not an attack on your faith, I'm sure it's wonderful to believe in something.
