Sure he does, I wanted to show a more pleasant side of him, but no...this is the kind of sarcastic smile that says "Im about to cut you down."

Oh and I was looking at a pannel of the manga while drawing this with him making that same smile, so yes, he does smile but its very rare. This is just after he butchers the good guys for the first time and Urahara and Yoruichi show up. I think this is where he decides to retreat and inform Aizen of their findings. He also says its not a good idea for him and his partner to try and take on Urahara and Yoruichi at that point, for fear that they would lose.
