"This image is shot in jpeg, tonemapped in Photomatix and processed in Adobe."

Photography like anything else has its jargon. The processes are all quite simple, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it. lol

Ah actually the RAW shot looks punchier, better contrast. Is the exposure the same for each shot, only this looks like it needs a serious levels adjust
(May I have a play with this one?)

Cool. its a smallish pic tho, I think it would look great large. Can you change its size on here so I can right click>Download it? I'd like to do 2 versions, a colour and a toned B/W version and then email them to you when done.

I thought that was full size. What size do you want it?

Err well i ususally have my pic at 1024 or 1280 pixels on here, often saved from the memory card at full size from the camera

I don't think the size matters. I think I just have to authorize the download function. I will do that and you can do a legit download.

Both are nice but I think I prefer the RAW image

This one is more foggy somehow... more delicate

I like this one better. It has more colours - not just gold but also green and red. This makes it have more depth and it makes details more visible thanks to greater contrast between them. This autumn is prettier even if not as rich.

I definitely like the processing on this one better. There isn't the extremes between light and dark and it isn't overbright. The colors are much nicer too.
With the other shot I want to reach for my sunglasses but I still keep going back to it because it seems to have a sharper focus.
Very pretty shot either way.

I was introduced to LR at our Digital Imaging group a couple of weeks ago by someone who is expert at using it. Of course I very quickly forgot half of what he said, but I'm gradually working my way through all the tutorials etc. It's one of the programs that, once you have it, you don't want to be without it. Grrrr...

Have you ever thought of converting the jpegs to tiffs, then run them through photomatix?

I agree with taff. I like this one. The colors are much nicer, the tones softer. I can almost "feel" being there. It's more alive.

I'm getting better at not rejecting HDR outright.

I can't decide which one is better. I think this one, but the RAW is very good, too, because it's more vivid, but in a way, this looks more natural. Nice work!

I think the Raw photo would go better with buildings or structures as they would stand out better..

That is really interesting to see the difference! I agree that this looks like a beautiful oil work, and so soft. I love it.
