"I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
for hope would be hope for the wrong thing;

Wait without love
for love would be love of the wrong thing;

There is yet faith
but the faith and the love and the hope
are all in the waiting.

Wait without thought,
for you are not ready for thought;

So the darkness shall be the light
and in the stillness the dancing."

~T.S. Eliot

I felt this picture was just too personal to comment on, based on the comments and its appearance. But after thinking for a while I thought I would try…
It’s a very intense and quiet image, a portrait of a truly sensitive soul. The blur of bokeh in the reflection has a magical effect and tempers the sensuality of the piece with it’s light, and gives the cool feeling from the tone and colour makes me think of the melodic sound of the surf on oceans shore while the water shimmers in the sunlight. The dress is hard to deal with as it is extremely intimate, but I feel it is very important in its part of the story. It dark as a shadow seems to fall like a dropping bloom, hidden from the sun, her life, lover and joy. The soul stripped down and bared. To truly see the soul of a person, what a rare and amazing thing that is. The flowers, the flowers…Their pure white and sweet scent inhaled, suggests a purity of thought and possibly a spiritual element as well, even though the rest of the image is enveloped in the strong sensuality. I really can’t step carefully enough around the feeling of this photo. I couldn’t even call it erotic in my mind despite its appearance, I feel there is something deeper here. It is seeing someone in their most open state, and I mean that in an emotional context. There is a strength here, but it is still and mixed with supreme vulnerability... Something almost innocent about it, something I can’t reach. The closed eyes and countenance hidden by the beautiful blooms. Lost in a memory perhaps? I don’t know if I’d truly want to know the reason as I think it could change the feeling just to know why, it seems more powerful just to wonder in silence. Those diamond eyes, what do they disguise as their shining light is hidden from my view…I think it’s very significant that the while the body can be seen, the face is so hidden, it makes me think that physical aspect so important in a sense. The mind is where the spirit breaths it’s expression from, and the face is hidden and thus so is the mind, only the eyes can be glimpsed through this window into her soul. But the shutters are drawn and I can only hear faint echoes of the music inside. Perhaps that’s why my gaze is drawn more to the eyes then anything else in this photograph. There is something about them that immediately catches my eyes and even if I look else where I have to look back and wonder again what lies inside. The deep tenderness and love unveiled are staggering to me. The title is perfectly chosen as that is the exact feeling I have when view it. I don’t really know what else I can say…I just hope my thoughts haven’t done an injustice to such a powerful work.
